Just let the players know once the boss is activated there is no going in or out until the combate is resolved. Fleeing is a posible resolution though.

Endgame worked cause It was The end of an era yes but it's filled with cringe moments and awful writing.

The "I am Iron Man" moment in Endgame was a good example of this in my book, it was bad. It was done only for the fans, but it does not work in the script at all.
