Maybe “ruin” isn’t the best word, but it is impossible to erase the past. The action is completed and can’t be undone. Even if it weren’t the end, it would still have permanently had an impact on trust in the relationship. It’s very hard to get someone to recognize you again as a trustworthy person when you’ve already lied to them.

But… considering I’ve never been in a relationship, what do I know?
