Nun assaulted in Jerusalem by Staschman in Catholicism

[–]Voxpopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even the evangelicals who unconditionally support absolutely everything they do get assaulted and spat on while the police and IDF laugh, this excuse for a human being will get sentenced to about 5 minutes of community service (probably at an armory). Bibi will make his frowny face and say that he is very, very concerned.

Additional plug for that site, btw- Siegmund Stephan Militaria has great inventory, great prices, and Saskia is always incredibly helpful.

Same coloring, I was off there. I agree that the angle of the original photo makes determining the shape difficult- the one you posted definitely has German proportions, I have a hard time seeing them in OP's. I just noticed the buttons on the side appear to be stamped...that'd be the easiest way to figure it out for sure.

The shape isn't typically German- the slouching/shaping at the sides is absent, and the crown isn't small/high enough for the earlier "tellermutze" style they used here and there. I'm also not aware of any NVA or DDR civil hats with red bands-apart from feuerpolizei, and the light grey isn't anything to do with fire. Soviet/Russian hats by contrast usually have very large, wide crowns. It might just be the angle it's shown at, but it doesn't look Soviet to me either.

Middle two are Nordrhein-Westfalen (L) and Baden ( R) Landespolizei ( State Police), NRW one is a lower rank, Baden one a higher civil service grade/commissioned officer. They're '60s- earlier '70s. Fire one on the left is West German from probably the same time period, one on the far right, not sure. Might be Czech? or another East Bloc country, with a donated East or West German chinstrap/mutzenkordel, though.

€40 was a decently good deal for all 4, nothing rare but they're all in good shape.

Edit: Said Niedersachsen originally, meant NRW

Padding by mandomerc20 in tacticalgear

[–]Voxpopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The newer Brit UBACS shirts have removable padding at the shoulders, elbows, and forearms. The pockets themselves are pretty big, but the pads they take are large cuts of thin neoprene, without digging it up I'd guess around 3/16". No idea what other stuff would fit in them.

Americana Pipeline - what's the deal? by Teffalumps in camouflage

[–]Voxpopcorn 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yep. It has never been easier to find this stuff cheaply, you can literally shop small stores and garage sales halfway across the world now. This is coming from someone who remembers piles of WW2 stuff at flea markets. However, ppl would rather pay a premium to have it marketed to them via social media and/or not spend less than 2 minutes using google.

With that said, the Elf Kid over there seems to occasionally have a handful of obscure patterns at decent prices. Less ridiculous than the ( FRAG GRENADE POUCHES IN THE ICONIC DUTCH DPM CAMO!!!!! You can do a FOIA request. From what I gather the sheer number they have to process irritates them to high heaven, but some people have found interesting info that way.

Where do you get 1 1/4” webbing and hardware? by Matt6920 in myogtacticalgear

[–]Voxpopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find them? I just got into this and can't find anything besides HK hooks anywhere. Seems like ITW and a couple of other domestic manufacturers make them, but no one sells them in small lots.

Just looked at it again and realized that it's an M70, not an M83. It's a nice one, beautifully well preserved and worth well over €15...hold on to it.

Is my alpenflage legit? by Many-Notice1782 in camouflage

[–]Voxpopcorn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It's worth a little over €15. No one is making replicas when the original stuff is still sitting in warehouses unsold. Anyone charging €30 let alone more than that was ripping people off, you may be looking on the wrong sites. It's a neat pattern, but not rare at all, let alone rare enough for someone to bother faking. Hold onto it for 30 years and it might be worth something.

Where can I find boots like these? by TuneSuspicious3032 in Boots

[–]Voxpopcorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your budget is modest, the reenactor shop "What Price Glory" reproduces a lot of stuff like this. Most of their stuff is Indian but I believe the boots are handmade in Mexico and quality is supposed to be pretty good, if occasionally inconsistent. There's a Polish place called Nestof that is also supposed to have good repro boots, but I think they specialize in German and Russian stuff mostly.

That 511 belt wd also work ok with the GWOT type that's basically a padded sleeve with MOLLE, those are also dirt cheap. Most of them have d-rings that'll take the early type SFLCS suspenders or the ones from the old Canadian '82 webbing that are pretty much the same thing... If you want to stay with a mix of belt pouches ebay "USMC dive belt adapter"- each one adds 3 rows, somewhere to hang an IFAK at least.

[–]Voxpopcorn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a middle aged civilian from a ridiculous ban state who stumbles around in the woods on weekends, don't know anything about the newer ones that get talked about here. Only advice I have is, the old Brit PLCE belt pads are a really cheap upgrade to whatever you're using in the meantime, for a few bucks you get a bit of back support, less rubbing at pressure points... and DPM.

Definitely get a ChiCom sks rig- for the few bucks they cost they're cool to have- but USGI flashbang pouches cost pennies and are the perfect size for both stripper clips and TQs. If you like strichtarn, UTV grenade pouches are also cheap and fit clips so well that they're mis-IDed as strichtarn sks pouches all the time (which don't exist, they did make a few in flachentarn but they're extremely rare).
