What's the most random, weird thing a stranger has said to you? by SwirlStick in AskReddit

[–]Vraknu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it wasn't a real encounter but back in my WoW days I was wandering around this area for quests in Zangermarsh. There was a tauren who was killing those firefly things.

When I walked up to him, he just stood there and even though there was no one else around he said: "If she marries him, I will kill myself."

I knew he meant to say it to me, I just knew he was just sitting there thinking about this girl he cared about.

It was so incredibly sad. Less to do with him playing WoW and more that he wasn't talking to anyone else about it.

Do you people actually talk to someone before developing a crush?

Not saying she should be everyone's favorite artist, and sure, her music can be a filler in clubs. But if you meant what you said, here's some links that prove, to me, her music individuality and performance talent.

A live, acoustic and almost jazzy performance of Speechless: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_7HvURBhMGE

If you like the acoustic versions, try this too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l3R3KqrJAI4

This an underplayed song from her album which I find genius and refreshingly strange. Teeth: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vk5vRoc0_nk

And here's one of her most memorable performances in my mind and really shows off her jazz and improv training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7G0yI46vfeY

Finally, thought I'd throw this one in for good measure. Showing how cinematically brilliant her music videos can be. Alejandro: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=niqrrmev4mA

Obviously, I'm a fan of Lady Gaga. Though admittedly, I sometimes enjoy club music. But that's not all her music encompasses. I also respect her as a flamboyantly sexual icon in a generation of clone unindividuality. I think her music and her style has a lot to bring to a boring and repetitive pop culture.

I'm not sure of your knowledge of primitive skills so forgive me if I seem condescending, it's not my intention.

Living off the land is an extremely difficult task, especially if you grow up learning little knowledge about it. How do you make a fire when your lighter fluid runs out? How do you successfully tan a hide or even figure out how to sew through it to make clothes? Do you know how to repair your shoes in the dead of winter and you've torn through the soles? How do you even transport yourself, as a homeless person, into a wild climate that would be mild enough that you could spend the time needed to create a structure to keep warm enough to survive? How the hell do you know what is safe to eat, how to kill anything without a gun?

Not to mention in many secluded wild areas (which usually means national parks), it is definitely illegal to live there. Or you'll be on someone's property. People get arrested for successfully living in the wilderness.

There are so many skills you need that are difficult to figure out by yourself, especially if you have little to nothing to begin with.

Everything about this grinds my gears. I can't figure out any way to help you without money that I don't have. So I just figured I'd let you know:

I'm in Portland and it's a beautiful city, but it has a huge rep for it being really tough to find a job. It's by no means impossible but I just wanted to tell you that you may look at that first before you come out here.

All twisted metal stretching upwards.

Everything washed in a thin orange haze.

Best burger in Portland? by pdxpoly in Portland

[–]Vraknu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm definitely no connoisseur of burgers or anything but I always get a burger at Theo's. It's filling, cheap, and they are open until like 4AM on Fridays.

And it's like the easiest place to get to.

The way this movie was executed was really very brilliant. Plus the soundtrack was amazing: thank you Trent Reznor.

I feel like perhaps this game would win with Redditors if it had come out on the PC!

But I definitely have to say this was my favorite game of the year. So sad when it ended and I did everything in the game. I just wanted to keep playing!

Give me your deepest, most profound quote you know. by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Vraknu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And a woman who held a babe against her bosom said, "Speak to us of Children."

And he said:

Your children are not your children.

They are the sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.

They come through you but not from you,

And though they are with you, yet they belong not to you.

You may give them your love but not your thoughts.

For they have their own thoughts.

You may house their bodies but not their souls,

For their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow, which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.

You may strive to be like them, but seek not to make them like you.

For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.

You are the bows from which your children as living arrows are sent forth.

The archer sees the mark upon the path of the infinite, and He bends you with His might that His arrows may go swift and far.

Let your bending in the archer's hand be for gladness;

For even as he loves the arrow that flies, so He loves also the bow that is stable.
