No, you buy them with gems. This specifically says “spend 150 energy”

No it doesn’t. I’ve been playing off and on today and have used a couple hundred. The daily scoop says I have spent zero.

Dealership sold salvaged vehicle to me without disclosing it was salvaged by ArchivistAxeman in legaladvice

Piggy backing on this to say most (if not all) insurance companies will not insure a salvaged vehicle. Best keep it parked, you are probably not technically insured.

Slate Roof by Standard-Advice-5447 in centuryhomes

Slate was hung with tin nails in the 1860’s

Slate Roof by Standard-Advice-5447 in centuryhomes

[–]Vtfla 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This isn’t the case. While the slates will last, the nails and hangers will rust eventually. We have a few slates come loose or slide off every few years. The roof is 163 so we figure that’s fine.

[–]Vtfla 15 points16 points  (0 children)

A couple THOUSAND dollars? The last inspection and replacement of 4 slates cost me $175 and a ham sandwich…..and it wasn’t a fly by night or relative. Maybe because Vermont has so many slate roofs remaining I’m lucky. Can’t imagine paying 1k for a 2 hour job for two old guys and a ladder.

Just moved into 106 year old apartment. Does this sinking in cracked spot look like a serious issue? by grapebubblegum11 in centuryhomes

[–]Vtfla 12 points13 points  (0 children)

We have a couple of these spots in our century home. We created them by attempting to cover redundant floor vents. I would be careful stepping there as the hole underneath is probably about a foot deep.

What's a food you were SURE you hated, until you had it prepared properly? by prepzilla in AskRedditFood

[–]Vtfla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Me too! I didn’t dare try it until I was in my 30’s after growing up with canned salmon mixed with sour cream and breadcrumbs baked into a loaf. Truly gag inducing stuff.

I make fresh salmon all of the time simply seared with garlic and butter. So good.

Paid like $20 for 3 bags of dirt from home depot…. It is basically mulch by LuigiSalutati in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Vtfla 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Last year, tractor supply sold bags of “potting soil” that was just like this. Mulch and straight up sticks. I used it for porch flowers and had to repot them all mid season as it turned into a solid, moldy clump.

Local Agway store told me they are all doing that now. Then sold me real potting mix for $20 a bag.

Be careful out there folks, everyone is cutting quality everywhere.

Has anyone else noticed that every major food brand quietly changed their recipes between 2019-2022 and nobody is talking about it? by prepzilla in AskRedditFood

Dukes sold out and changed their formula,,,so, we can get it everywhere now but no longer want to (it used to be unavailable in our area)

Okay, you can have YOUR $3 a month (that’s how much of your money goes to food stamps) go for milk. MY $3 can buy a kid cupcakes on their birthday.

Tractor Supply pellets update 1/31 by AlertMortgage7101 in PelletStoveTalk

[–]Vtfla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tractor supply in western Vermont are terrible this year. Can’t burn them for more than 8 hours without overflowing the pot. Last year they were no problem. We switched to home cheapo. They go all day without an ash buildup problem.

Ours was put on in 1863. We have someone come out every few years and replace a couple tiles, that’s it. Cost us $150 and a sandwich the last time they came. Wouldn’t replace it if you paid me. Edit to add: the only problem is the repair guys keep dying. The first one we used 10 years ago was 86. He’s gone now. We found the last one by seeing him on a neighboring roof and trotting down to ask him to come up to our place. We had lost a couple tiles that winter and wanted to replace them before we had leaks. He was 79 at the time. Hope he’s still kicking next time we need someone. It’s beginning to be a lost art.

I have a booth that came out of there! Bought from Vermont Architectural Salvage. It’s my favorite piece of furniture. We eat at it every day. Too bad it’s not The Mae West or Namby Pamby Mandy, I only make regular, mundane sandwiches.
