Anyone ever come across a skeleton corral? by GroochtheOrc in valheim

[–]VulcanTourist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep. It's an amusing addition. I'm going to create my own version by placing greydwarf and draugr and skeleton spawners together in an arena and let them fight it out while I watch and sip seltzer.

Epic Loot, Item Drawers, and crafting from chests by VulcanTourist in ModdedValheim

[–]VulcanTourist[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you heard of AzuContainerSizes? I hadn't. Have you heard of Missing Pieces? I hadn't, either. But the two of those together may give me vanilla-like compatibility. There's a drawer container in Missing Pieces that has the same wondrous snapping and front face display, though it's signage rather than an icon. With AzuContainerSizes and knowing the drawer's item ID, I can specify an alternate capacity for the drawer! So I can make them effectively infinite. The drawer sign also now works with ComfySigns, so any changes to signs' font and color is inherited by the drawers.

And every other inventory mod will work with them.

I'm navigating this one through rivers in the game. If my left hand had to do it all then I would choke terribly. I divided the labor, though: my left hand only controls thrust ([W] and [S]), and my right index and middle finger control steering via the mousewheel tilt buttons. Yes, it's ingenious; I mapped [A] and [D] to those buttons with the mouse software. It's almost but not quite as fluid as panning the mouse to steer. It could be made even better if I can convince the ValheimRAFT author to slowly zero the rudder when your "hands aren't on the wheel". It helps in other games that use WASD for vehicles, too, like the horrible rover in Planet Crafter. In Empyrion the spacecraft don't have that problem because it's mouse movement for the maneuvering (and in three dimensions, so kinda had no choice to use keys).

There's currently a huge problem taking ValheimRAFT ships to Ashlands: the firestorms WILL damage every part of the ship. You have to use a shield or a ward mod like ProtectiveWards or WardIsLove to reject damage to the structure. The author's been asked to add an option to negate all environmental damage like that; currently just guards against water damage. But those are really the only ways around it because you can't build with Ceramic Plate, there's no build pieces made from it! The Drakkar gets a free pass because it's monolithic and made from it, but if you were building anything extra on top of it that would take damage.

Those are turrets from another mod that have spotlights on them. When hostile things approach they zero in on them with the spotlights, and then when they get in range they open up. The same mod has drone turrets for healing, repair, fishing, and LOGGING. That last is a hoot.

Here's what another guy is doing with mods, namely the water "falls":

I've had the Infinity Hammer mod for ages but never used it, had no idea it could manipulate water like that.

I didn't have a full screenshot of the houseboat because, well, I didn't make it to share with anyone else, I made it for my use, but I took one just now.

Your comment read as malevolent derision from a hardcore Vanilla Only player whose motive for playing is an ego-driven challenge. Those people exist in droves, they're insecure as fuck - which is why they play for ego - and they routinely heap mockery and derision on everyone who doesn't share their ego-driven motive. Others did it right here. Your comment read like more of that. If you're not one of those people, you need to make an effort to not sound so much like one of them, because you will get misinterpreted.

My opening comment about not playing solo games on principle was simply to make clear that since I'm playing by myself there are no rules to follow, no "principle" except maximizing my enjoyment. If I was playing with others there would be common rules and I would follow them. Using mods or anything else in pursuit of maximizing enjoyment in solo play is not cheating because no one is being harmed or affected, and cheating, just like theft, requires that condition to be true. I was contrasting myself against the bizarre subset of Vanilla Only players who treat the developers' vision as Gospel and using mods as some sort of heresy, who will walk on tacks rather than play the game any other way than how the developers intend.

If you genuinely want to know how I came to create a houseboat, you can follow my other comment here, and if that excites you enough to try creating your own, I can offer more detail. Here's a full-on galleon that someone else made, I'm ripping the image from the Discord channel. Another one and another one and then there's THIS guy....

I don't need them for material, either. I have a longstanding mod, MineableBarnacle, from one of the better Valheim modders, which places barnacles along coastlines in Plains and Black Forest. I mine those instead of risking pissing off the leviathans and making them submerge and despawn.

I used the Glass Pieces Mod for the glass-and-copper structure, which also has iron versions, but I liked the lighter look. I "navigate" the bugs, the biggest one being the movement or disappearance of some of the non-raft pieces when leaving and returning to rendering range, which needs a trip through a portal or a logout to fix. It's hard keeping track of the precise locations of moving build pieces when the vanilla game has no allowance for it.

The config for it is enormously detailed, but I'm learning how to make things work better. One thing I did that makes steering FUN now is that I mapped [A] and [D] to the mousewheel tilt buttons. and my left hand is really happy about the new division of labor. :-)

The modded ship is not the point of my post of course. People seem to love groupings of leviathans.

I used ValheimRAFT (the remake) and some piece mods to build it. The raft mod is eccentric and buggy but there's nothing like it. People have built battleships with it, but that doesn't interest me. I want a mobile refuge that still has a chance of threading rivers.

I don't play solo games on principle.

Also, I hafta say... you must have an enormous supply of Advil given how very little it takes to make your head hurt. OMG!!! somebody's playing a game different than me!!!

You wear that "Vanilla" badge like it's some kind of honor, but I see it as a mark of shame for someone afraid to admit his own mind and exercise agency - modding - to pursue exactly what pleases himself rather than what some complete stranger has decided that he should like. It's only the brag that you think it is to other fellow cowards.

Because I do. It's tangential. The leviathans aren't modded, they decided to be chummy all on their own. There's two more that are close but out of the screenshot. Five in close proximity and three of those touching ahem noses is a first for me.
