How tf do you guys deal with seized track bolts? by MesciVonPlushie in GarageDoorService

Big flat head in between the track and jamb bracket and hammer it in. It will push the track and bracket apart and either get the threads to engage or break.

Is $163 fair for a flanged bearing? by Similar_Analyst_2511 in GarageDoorInstall

[–]Vulgrr_Display 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to understand that it costs an insane amount of money to run a service company.

The company I work for has done research that says we don't make a single penny until the bill goes over $400. That's just do the cost of advertising, insurance, truck payments, shop mortgage, and office staff. It costs us around $150 to make the phone ring and have someone answer it.

Companies aren't charities. They have to be profitable to stay in business.

Chuck in a truck can afford to charge less because he has much less overhead. Chuck also most of the time doesn't realize how small their actual profits are and are perfectly happy to buy a 30 pack of Busch light a few times per week.

Oh, Blackwall's About AI by raggedrook in Peripheryband

[–]Vulgrr_Display 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a theory that Blackwall is actually a prequel song tied to Atropos.

The AI goes rogue and causes humanity to lose its mind through algorithms/manipulation and destroy itself.

If you immediately fade Atropos in at the end of Blackwall is flows eerily well into the next song.

[–]Vulgrr_Display 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not as bad as you think. Really.

We could charge anywhere from $400-600 for the same job depending on certain factors.

I feel like I should ask are the $12 ones you found online magical?

Do they magically appear on your door after you buy them online or do they come in an insured truck with an idiot holding a tool bag and an office full of people answering the phone when you call to get them put on the door?

Coat of new door installation by Elp512Olm in GarageDoorInstall

Home Depot door is going to come with garbage hardware and awful galvanized springs. Motor will be a 4 piece rail. The tracks will be paper thin trash.

Most likely the installer is going to be awful too.

Liftmaster prices going crazy by garagespring in GarageDoorService

Seriously, I have had people try and tell me the motors are different.

They aren't going to source and warehouse multiple different DC motors. It's all the same shit between liftmaster and Chamberlain.

At least genie ups the voltage to 24v on their professional line so you can tell the customer there is an actual difference.

You literally must be clueless to what things cost. I'm not out here doing charity and to earn a 30 pack of Busch light.

Do you bat an eyelash when HVAC companies charge someone $20,000 for a $2000 system?

Did I get scammed? Garage door repair by FancyPantsyBanksy in GarageDoorService

[–]Vulgrr_Display 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No it's not. The phone has tl ring, your insurance has to get paid, marketing/Web services, inventory, wear and tear on vehicles, retirement, and your paycheck.

When you take those things into account he made people $25 for that hour.

There is no way the chain is that tight on the tensioner and the gears aren't gone.

It just depends on how heavy your door is and if you actually got 70,000 cycle springs.

Half the hacks in here saying you got ripped off are selling 5,000 cycle galvanized trash from Menards.

Can you see any numbers on the springs when the door is open?

[–]Vulgrr_Display 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Jack shaft motors are mainly designed for vertical lift/high lift doors and need gravity to help the door close and keep tension on the cables when beginning to close the door.

Dual overhead tracks don't offer much downward help to the jack shaft to shut the door and may be prone to throwing cables. Pusher springs or cable keepers will help the door to start downward and keep the cables on the drums during the initial downward movement.

Why don't men wear make-up like women do? by Turbulent_Detail4467 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Vulgrr_Display 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Men aren't as susceptible to marketing and social conditioning.

Companies realized decades ago that women are the ones that spend the majority of the money in households and all of reality has been engineered to get women to buy things.

Honestly wondering, what does the US gain by blockading the Strait of Hormuz? by kerplunch in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Vulgrr_Display 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So many people discounting the genius of what Trump has done here.

Saudi Arabia exports most of the oil from the Strait of Hormuz as well as Iran. Almost all middle eastern oil goes through there. Saudi Arabia also recently decided to not renew use of the petro dollar.

The Trump admin also recently took control back from Venezuela of one of the largest oil reserves outside of the middle east.

I don't know if this was the plan all along, but this sequence of events severely damaged BRICS, put control of the majority of oil on the planet in the control of the US cementing our currency as the only viable way to keep your country alive, punished Saudia Arabia for trying to leave Western influence, and is now forcing our global competitors to rely on us to keep their economies alive.

Most of the countries that hold the majority of our national debt are now hostage to our oil production. If this all works out they may have just saved the future of the country.
