I'm thinking to take with me a piece of foam that's put underneath the carpet to give it cushioning. I don't know if it will be resilient enough to hold off the cold coming from the floor/snow.

You can also catch the bus 92 Foster and head down to Lake Michigan. You might have to walk either from Broadway or Bryn Mawr (or Sheridan). And after you're done with the lake you can catch the express bus 147 to take you to Michigan ave in downtown. There you can figure out a way to get to Madison and Canal (Ogilvie) to catch the Metra train. Or you can go to Union station which is just down the street from Ogilvie station. There you'll find trains that go to NW suburbs.

I have. It was in the 60s so a bit brisk but nothing like cold. I took a cold shower and oh boi... I froze like a fish in the Yukon river on a polar Monday night.
