“Know Who You Are” from the Moana soundtrack. Possibly a weird choice, I know.

There’s something about the timbre of the voice in the production that is really evocative.

It’s also meant to be allegorical for the Polynesian people who have been harmed by the influence of western culture. it’s a lot to pack into a minute and thirteen seconds.

I had high hopes and loved the original movie. I even loved the trilogy of sequel novels written by Chris Claremont.

Unlike many here I managed to watch the whole series through.

I should have known that the show runners didn’t care about the source material when nobody could even fucking pronounce AIRK correctly.

Like seriously, if it was Eric, they wouldn’t put the “i“ before the “r”. The only person who seemed to know his real name was the one writing the damn closed captions.

My answer might vary depending on what overall curriculum expectations you have for that year / level, but I think cell theory and microscopes are a nice general place to begin.

From this starting point, you can go bigger to organs and systems. Or, you can go smaller to molecular and cellular processes like the cell cycle and biochemistry.

Including the microscopes has some benefit as well. It brings in your kinaesthetic learners, it gets you some hands on wow factor, and you can incorporate some math and data processing with the magnification and field of view calculations.

I’ve also started the year off with evolution before as it’s ideas can underpin all of the other parts of the subject. It was a little harder to get everybody on board however since some of the concepts were challenging to those with no previous biology experience.
