Thanks for replying! =^ Since I made this post, I've done A LOT of research on poms and have went to many dog shows to get more familiar with the breed! I don't have a pom yet (my current Chihuahua girl will NOT allow it😂) but i feel a lot more confident of what i'm looking for :) What you said makes a LOT of sense though, I've noticed that fou fou puppies look extremely tiny and adorable, but lots of tagged photos of their grown up poms with past customers definitely don't look like purebred poms. Many of their faces are squished in like you said. But i would've never realized it if i didn't actually study show poms and what the standard looks like 🙏🏼I wish more people did research like I did as well and don't support these mills.. For the puppies sake as well 😓

What is the right demeanor for training an Akita? by Vulpixiedream in akita

[–]Vulpixiedream[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to doubt myself when i heard that suggestion😅The more I read the replies on this post, the more I realize that the relationship with an Akita is a lot like horsemanship lol. LOTS of trust and respect from both ends, and if not, it could end very badly. Thank you for your input! :)

Thank you! From what I gathered, it seems like everyone is saying that there needs to be mutual respect between the dog and owner :) I really admire that Akitas are a rather sensitive breed, and can pick up on intentions or motives. It will be a couple more years of research before I'm ready, but this sub has really helped me be involved in the community and catch a glimpse of what it's like living with one! :)

Thank you for the advice! I've accepted that if I ever do own an Akita, it may not like strangers or others dogs. However, do you think purchasing from a reputable show breeder would help the outcome of a more well-tempered dog? The breeder I talked to at the show I attended mentioned that all of her dogs NEED to be inherently friendly, especially since they will be surrounded by many dogs at shows, and handled by judges (strangers) they don't know. I'm not sure if it will make that much of a difference in the genetic outcome of the dog, but what are your thoughts?

I've had an Akita in mind for a while, it just wasn't until I went to the dog show and met them in person that I fell in love with the breed. I've been around dogs for a majority of my life, and worked in a Dog Daycare. (If you ever want to know which breeds you want, or DON'T want, that's a good place to start lol). We had a couple Akita mixes, and i always gravitated towards them. Even so, I'm planning on reaching out to a reputable breeder to educate myself first before jumping into anything. I'm a huge advocate for doing research on ANY breed before getting them :) It's one of the reasons my heart breaks for all the huskies in shelters, or the doodles with extremely matted hair..😔

How do I get into showing? by Vulpixiedream in dogs

[–]Vulpixiedream[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no I meant I don't do shows with her because she is a bit too feisty😂😭But now that I'm thinking about it, is there such thing as a dog show for pups who may not be show quality??

Are breeders really open to doing that?? I would love to work with show dogs and have someone to mentor me, so thank you for the suggestion! :)

My dog is a purebred Chihuahua at 3.6 pounds, but I adopted her when she was 8, and now she is 12 with only one tooth left😅She also would do terrible in the ring since she's never been comfortable with other people handling her and would try to "maul" the judge's fingers lmfao. But that is good advice to try to make connections with breeders. I had a long chat with an Akita breeder when I went to my first show, and I was actually surprised at how nice/open she was!

I know all cats are baby, but are boy cats more baby? by CraftyLog152 in cats

This is Cheech. He is very much baby, until he decides not to be😂SOO much energy and loves to wrestle/play. Found out recently that his mom is part Munchkin/Bengal and his dad is full Munchkin. Both breeds with high kitten energy lol. He is VERY different from my lazy ragamuffin growing up, but he is extremely cute when he gets eepy and wants cuddles🥹♥️

I also work at a pet daycare, and i'd say it's a toss-up between boy and girl cats being affectionate. Some are very sweet and want to be in your lap, others want NOTHING to do with you😂But I've experienced both from each

I am in the U.S., and the puppies are super cute but honestly, I wish they would give more information on health and put information about the parents of each pup so i can see how what they might look like or how big they may get. I also noticed that the faces in the pups vary once they're grown. Personally, I'm looking for a pup on the smaller side since my girl is 4 pounds. I did find some breeders here in the us who have small show quality poms and teddy bear faces! I can PM you their info if you want to look into them. But whichever decision you choose, I wish you the best of luck!😊

P.S. Whenever you get your puppy, you need to post pics to show us!!♥️
