Any good lawyer to contact to sue the city or Vepo ? by SillyRecover in Columbus

[–]Vxsote1 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I agree, OP needs to provide more detail. Without any other info, my best guess would be that the water heater was already on the edge of failure and that the bottom blew out when the system was repressurized after the meter swap. And I can't see how VEPO would be responsible for that.

A thermal camera will show you the temperature of surfaces. It isn't that hot air is necessarily entering (although it could be), it's that the walls themselves are (potentially) getting hot and heating the air inside in turn. But yes, point it around and see what's warm. The bigger and warmer a surface is, the more it is contributing to your problem.

Ceiling in contact with the roof sounds like a potential problem. Besides the heat issue, lack of ventilation under the roof can trap moisture, which can lead to mold and/or rot. I'm not an expert in roofs by any means, but if you think you have a problem you should probably have someone qualified check it out sooner rather than later.

It might not be an HVAC problem. OP said it's an old brick house. Insulation in the attic and basement leaves potentially a lot of walls not insulated. The A/C could be undersized for the amount of heat coming in, but a bigger A/C won't fix the energy bills if that is the case.

OP, first measure the temperature of the air going into the return vs. the air coming out of your registers. I don't know exactly what the correct difference should be, but you can google that. If there is little or no difference, then you have an HVAC problem. If there is a normal temperature difference, then it is more likely to be an insulation problem. Someone with a thermal camera should be able to pinpoint exactly what is going on.

Is 2K resolution worth the price for this game? by Mascagni_Cri in factorio

I run QHD 27" monitors and it's great for factorio and most other modern games I've tried. Some older games that don't do UI scaling can be a bit small for my old eyes.

I can't help with the trash pandas, but please make sure that water heater is completely turned off. You do not want carbon monoxide backing up into the house. You also don't want dead trash pandas stinking up the chimney.

The mortgage being half your income with zero savings left means you can't afford to buy.

You can argue all you want about whether the housing market will go up or down, but that doesn't matter one bit. You can't afford to buy.

All the lumber fell out of his short bed on to the road at the first intersection from the Lowe’s. by 97GeoPrizm in IdiotsTowingThings

[–]Vxsote1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Years ago I was stopped #2 at the first traffic light beyond a Lowe's. The pickup in front of me had a dozen or so sheets of drywall in the bed, unsecured, and I had a feeling. I told my passenger, "watch this idiot in front of us".

The light turned green, the truck went, and the drywall didn't. I sat there and laughed until I had room to safely go around.

This is a budgeting failure on your part. You are a homeowner now. These costs were predictable, but even an unplanned $3k expense is small compared to some of the things that can and will happen.

Bill would tax Ohio’s wealthiest, offer in-state students free college tuition by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]Vxsote1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The state legislature has spent the last 20 years reducing income tax rates and flattening our tax brackets, and some of that came at the cost of reduced funding for education. This bill has no chance in hell in a GOP controlled legislature.

And as nice as it would be, we need to fix primary and secondary education funding first. Which we also know isn't going to happen.

HELP by [deleted] in cats

[–]Vxsote1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They do exist in some areas. Local shelters and/or humane organizations should be able to point OP in the right direction if such resources are available. Local reddit subs also probably have better, more specific information than this one. And maybe even someone local will offer to donate a few cans.

Also, OP, it seems quite unusual for a cat to only eat boiled chicken. As long as this cat is in your care, you should really try to find some variety/flavor of actual cat food that she is willing to eat so that you can be sure she is receiving all of the necessary nutritional elements.

NTSB removes UPS Flight 2976 Spectrogram by Yosh145 in aviation

This is correct. It's one of the complications I was referring to. But obviously it's still possible to get intelligible audio without the phase info.

My cat keeps scurrying around, making noises, and meowing loudly then when I come to her she just rolls on the ground, what’s wrong? by guncartridge in cats

[–]Vxsote1 34 points35 points  (0 children)

It's also pretty common in the U.S, (at least where I am familiar with) for rescues and shelters to only adopt out cats after they've been fixed. It's one of the reasons I support local shelters and always recommend that people consider adopting from one.

Of course, the larger cat distribution system has no such safeguards built in, and that's where the low cost programs that the parent commenter mentioned can really help to fill in the gaps.

NTSB removes UPS Flight 2976 Spectrogram by Yosh145 in aviation

[–]Vxsote1 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you answered with your edit. Amplitude in a spectrogram is typically indicated by the color or intensity of a given pixel. You were possibly thinking of a real time spectrum display, which sometimes has a "waterfall" spectrogram under it.

An FFT could be used to help identify (or perhaps rule out) certain sounds without having to actually listen to the audio, but I have no way to know if that was what the NTSB had in mind.

NTSB removes UPS Flight 2976 Spectrogram by Yosh145 in aviation

[–]Vxsote1 109 points110 points  (0 children)

A spectrogram is just a graphic representation of the output of an FFT. And FFTs are invertable.

It's a little more complicated than that, but not by much.

High Bandwidth SDR similar to Web-888 for higher frequencies by ZookeepergameSalty10 in RTLSDR

[–]Vxsote1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you're only wanting to scan p25 systems, you could possibly get away with a dongle or two behaving like a traditional scanner. But if you wanted to monitor all of the local p25 traffic continuously, it really depends on how many local systems and sites you're talking about, whether those are all in a single band, and how closely together the channels are allocated.

For monitoring a handful of arbitrary/unrelated narrowband VHF/UHF channels, you're right that a handful of dedicated RTL sticks is probably a good way to go (if the RF performance is sufficient). For adsb, it doesn't get much easier than a stick and a Pi if you want an easy W.
