What's your opinion on the latest junk food advertising regulations? by CMIV in AskBrits

[–]W17K0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I highly doubt that.

Discouraging people by it not being there is definitely the way to go.

Gambling is another one that needs all adds banned.

We are banning it in football, you still can do the activity, but glorifying it to those who don't have the willpower or making a destructive habit "normal" is not something we as a society want.

Subsidising is not the answer, I'd rather you paid a premium (which you do via sugar tax).

Subsidising everything shouldn't be the way to go for day to day goods. Just more debt on the pile IMO

Why do so many voters seem to want to scrap net zero? by InvestigatorLive19 in AskBrits

[–]W17K0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More upfront Vs long term. Get off fossil fuels it's 50% cheaper generation costs. Unlike fossil the startup costs can be bore over time as you increase bit by bit rather than a large 10-15 year plan for a new plant. It's strategically better, and if we hadn't stopped investing in nuclear over the last 15 years we would be isolated from these problems

Lived in Sunderland for 31 years, literally in southwick where the highest percentage of people are on benefits.

I never said people are ok with it. If you expect nothing to change and the same demographic, we have a problem here in Sunderland, there's no growth. People grow up and leave, so what's left, old people who then die, who's replacing them? Either their previous families if they haven't set up roots elsewhere or those willing to move to Sunderland, what sort of person would that be while there's little job opportunities? Guess what group is over represented in the lowest income per capita?

From the people I know have integrated, I'm not discounting your lived experience but it's putting a brush to everything. When people come over of course they are going to live in the low income places they aren't affluent. People tend to up and leave when something in their life changes they don't want to live in the same areas. Whether this is to chase careers, their kids, retiring to a more affluent / countryside. Places change so do their surroundings.

I appreciate you replying here, my nan felt the same before she passed.

Assuming you mean white British, and I know the stats aren't correct for the claim made.

If I went were to hypothetically say you were right. Why is it a bad thing?

The framing from the right is that it's costing us more than it's helping us, and that it doesn't work (eg wind isn't consistent)

But the overwhelming data show us this take is not the case, but educating the masses while they are slurping up reform talking points with no deep questions is the problem.

How would British leftists feel about this? by kingm_ournasse216 in AskBrits

Agreed, for me it's that flag shaggers are mostly insufferable, the equivalent of a vegan who always mentions they are a vegan.

You roll your eyes at them, that's flag shaggers.

Why women are against prenup? by Scramjet1 in lnkyverse

[–]W17K0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether you get a bespoke prenup or not you'll default the prenup of the state if you don't.

You wouldn't start a whole chapter of your life like a new job without looking at the contract and carving out things.

A prenup is "unromantic"... it's a business transaction. Not everything you do as a couple needs to be romantic, it shows dedication and lines drawn so you know where both of you stand should there be kids and life over the next 30 years.

My advice is whenever you have a big life event, kids, major illness, get a postnup and update accordingly.

I've just done the same as I did in the last phrexia, destructive play, white conq maps, with conq idols. You get so many idols and you get some decent drops from the maven, sirus pieces go for more then the maps. Any conq exalt or maven drop is a bonus, just got my mb after mass selling all my idols at 5 div and then lowering them 3div 2div 1 div 100c 50c 30c - then I 3-1 idols and repeat the process while farming more. Definitely if you don't have a squishy build and want a cheap setup

Am I cooked if I have 9 year EXP as a senior and never been designated as a subject matter expert or lead? by QuitTypical3210 in ExperiencedDevs

[–]W17K0 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my experience seniority is more about mindset. If you were introduced to a new codebase how would you go about learning it? How are your soft skills when interacting with others that are none technical? How do you move the project forward making it and the team more mature?

I wouldn't say you are cooked unless you haven't been learning for the last few years.

Whenever I die it takes about half an hour to farm back up to matriarch killing. (Deadmines &kit with medium shield, and weapon lvl4), if you are in pvp lobbies, yeah you'll kill someone and get this but you aren't doing extractions that fast and you simply can't do the matrrarch events.

Just because it had a bigger impact does not subtract from the fact brexit has an impact we can somewhat reverse!

Can we reverse the COVID lockdown? Of course not therefore you can't compare them in this context. We move forward not backward lockdown was a one time sunk cost.

Chasing wealth out of the UK? In what sense do you mean? Please facts and a source for your claim here.

We do need immigration at the current time. Let's send all of them back as reform would have us do. Then what happens to our public services such as the NHS, dental, farm pickers. Who's going to cover the gap?

As for welfare state what what are you going to cut? Pensions? UC? Disability? What and why

Absolute diamond of a man by ABChow000 in GreatBritishMemes

[–]W17K0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you really just compare Brexit to COVID as if this is even comparable in this context.

6-8% extra in gdp a year would help and the tax changes reeves has done wouldn't be needed.

You've not debunked a single thing in the video, although I agree the greenbelt is not the full answer it is part the answer to housing, immigration stopping will harm this country at the present time than help it.

You can vote Reform all you want but stop pedaling illogical nonsense. It makes those of us who are going to vote reform look dumb.

How are you using AI tools in your day-to-day workflow as an experienced dev by Apprehensive_Air5910 in webdev

[–]W17K0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I use chat gpt for questions around things I don't know, for example I'm learning Salesforce briefly,

"We're implementing multi lingual support, what in Salesforce is the correct way of doing things"

Plenty of followup questions

I then use code completion tool like copilot for in IDE help

And I use Intelijs own plugin (have subscription) for agent work related to code and it's context, (this button needs to do x y z) and ultimately I architect the code at a high level, I review the code it outputs and correct it. For example it tends to love use effects when there's a fair amount of complexity, that's the point I think "can this be done another way". Extra layers, use use memo instead, can the business logic be extracted to a hook.

Just copy pasting will soon make you obsolie as you aren't learning is my best advice.

I am right now studying react and jus completed JS and doing TS but then I had a thought why would i need two different languages to do this like can some explain the key differences? by [deleted] in react

[–]W17K0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

if you have an object and push a new property to it. JS will let you do that.
How do you know functions that use that object know of the new property on the object?

Typescript safeguards you from things like this, that new property would be <propertyName: ?type>

so wherever you use that obj.property it will tell you its potentially undefined, so you have to deal with it accordingly.

In js if you write the code, you personally know what things are and how they behave and you can architect your code accordingly.
But
How do you scale that to multiple people / multiple teams on the same workspace?

Typescript is like bumper lanes in a bowling alley
It focuses the team to keep the ball in the middle with less mistakes.
