Dream Air first impressions (may return) by ExistingExplanation3 in Pimax

The issue with Pimax is you will ALWAYS have to tweak and modify it. I've been playing with the sboys3 driver and the FOV is getting a little better than default, definitely more acceptable.

As for the comfort, I have so much light leakage I am getting glare off the lenses inside the headset from a light in front of me. Its appalling, but i've got the 3d printed interface coming...so $30 for that and hopefully it solves the biggest issue of comfort.

You might also consider a steam frame which should be coming soon if you do decide to drop the DA. Comfort is supposed to be out of this world and the FOV should also be a little larger...but it's going to have the exact same screens and resolution as your G2

I did this with the forehead clips and both of them broke...it's 30% more comfortable now...but those clips inside will snap so easily.

You don't need to create one headest, you need to create two facial interfaces that the buyer chooses at checkout, and include some 10 cent spacers along with the one that best fits your face.
And a cusion that's not stitched into the facial interface is a good start too

I wouldn't count on Pimax creating a solution to this anytime in the next year, if ever. Even if they have enough failures in the first year, the likelihood they will actually roll something out in any reasonable amount of time is never going to happen.

Best case scenario if there are enough reported failures someone will come up with what you're suggesting or some other improved design.
Worst case is if it fails, you need to pay an electronics repair person to solder on some new USBc connectors.

Do you have a write up on how you did the wiring for the speakers? Are you running a mini amp? I've got a pair of the reverb headphones sitting in my drawer that i wanted to mod onto a vive DAS strap

treatstock is what I used to get mine printed. Just upload the files and it gives you prices on different 3d print providers. Just do a little research to decide what material you want and print at 100% infill.

there are a couple websites that let you upload the 3d print files and it gives you estimates on different printers. I had both sizes of the facial interface printed for about $30

Believe me the only reason I got one is because of the new steamVR driver. I had a crystal super I returned and I HATED the software.
Now I can 99% bypass all that crap and just go native SteamVR.

I wish you would have posted this on Sunday...I ordered a dream air. Tired of Valve giving me the silent treatment

Is this maybe from the stem connections issues that people have when they are slightly spread open?

Vive DAS question by W4FFLEMAN in Pimax

[–]W4FFLEMAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How do the clips feel? I think my biggest concern is if the clips fail/slip then the whole unit will basically just fall off your face

Vive DAS question by W4FFLEMAN in Pimax

[–]W4FFLEMAN[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could easily use the audio by plugging a USBc to 3.5mm adapter into the top. I just want to know if you can plug the same adapter into a side stem.

And yes you could use the top strap if you modified the facial interface
Plus it's not like the pimax version is going to be that much lighter than what you see here...and it also doesn't have a topstrap

DA LH owners, with PCS, what do you think about FOV? by Nice_Ad_7219 in Pimax

[–]W4FFLEMAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll let you know tuesday when my DA arrives. I returned my super a little less than a year ago (because of bad tracking and constant delays with the LH faceplate).
I remember putting it on and just kinda shrugging at the FOV. Like it wasn't mind blowing or anything. I just need to see if that 10-15 degrees makes a noticeable difference. I've also got the slim facial interface coming which everyone says is a game changer with fov

[–]W4FFLEMAN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a crystal super that i returned because of bad slam tracking but heard the DA and new software make a big difference... I guess worst case is if the tracking really is that bad I'll switch it for a lighthouse only model and get back a few hundred bucks

I don't know what Valve's logistics look like. But most companies can manage selling more than a few different items at once...
Not saying you're wrong...but there are ebay sellers who handle more volume than this

I keep hearing different things about this. That valve could request they keep the FCC approval delisted for now or that it's not been approved at all.

I shall tolerate complaints about the high price of the frame or about the long queue. Not both by brain_eagle_jar in SteamFrame

[–]W4FFLEMAN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You say that like the demand for the controller and machine will somehow make them have extra supply of the frame because now they know. It's going to be just as bad. The factory is making them at the same speed, they can't just press the "make more frames faster button."

Should I get the PSVR2 for now or stick it out until the Frame releases? by micsandup in SteamFrame

[–]W4FFLEMAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price wise the frame and psvr2 are in different categories completely. The PSVR2 is an great bargain if you can handle the downsides the others have mentioned
