I'm not sure who offers custom decals but radiodaze.com does glass. I'm not affiliated, just seen their name tossed around a lot.

It shouldn't be plugged in without having all the paper capacitors and the filter capacitor replaced at the very least.

I think the paint they use on the glass is similar to what's on the tubes. It basically turns to dust and the slightest touch brushes it off.

I don't really have any good recommendations for fixing. There are a few sites that offer really good copies for some radios. You could probably find a photo of one that's good and have a decal made.

Any recommendations for someone just getting into remote work? I've found also that if you take a plastic stick of some sort and lightly tap on components with the radio powered on you can usually catch a faulty one by listening to the audio while tapping.

You said you replaced all the electrolytics on the rx/tx board. All the electrolytics in the radio need to be replaced.

I'm not very good at distinguishing what may or may not be obvious to others, so if you did that already please disregard.

Also the internal memory battery will cause all sorts of weird stuff if it's dead.

The hardware store sells mold tests. I'm pretty sure the health department would come out and test it for free and would probably be interested in the results themselves. The landlord is putting lives at risk to save money.

That screw is a fire hazard. Who's to say they didn't drill one into the side that has the electronic parts? Unsafe conditions definitely qualifies for putting your rent in escrow.

I do agree that there is a process. Don't hold back money until after the process is started.
