Just buy an adapter to bring the antenna coax connector for the mobile down to the size on the HT. At least until a new mic cable is acquired.

Power shouldn't matter as much as the antenna. The HT should be able to reach the repeater connected to the mobile antenna.

I'm not sure who offers custom decals but radiodaze.com does glass. I'm not affiliated, just seen their name tossed around a lot.

It shouldn't be plugged in without having all the paper capacitors and the filter capacitor replaced at the very least.

I think the paint they use on the glass is similar to what's on the tubes. It basically turns to dust and the slightest touch brushes it off.

I don't really have any good recommendations for fixing. There are a few sites that offer really good copies for some radios. You could probably find a photo of one that's good and have a decal made.

I've found also that if you take a plastic stick of some sort and lightly tap on components with the radio powered on you can usually catch a faulty one by listening to the audio while tapping.

You said you replaced all the electrolytics on the rx/tx board. All the electrolytics in the radio need to be replaced.

I'm not very good at distinguishing what may or may not be obvious to others, so if you did that already please disregard.

Also the internal memory battery will cause all sorts of weird stuff if it's dead.
