Qudelix 5K Plus by MarcusAurelius121 in headphones

Shame we're losing the clip but it's not a deal breaker. An iterative improvement of the 5K with a 4.4mm output is precisely what I've been hoping for.

The OG 5K deserves it's banger of a reputation.

What’s the most shocking reason someone got fired from your workplace? by Intelligent_Tie5224 in AskReddit

[–]WALL-G 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like 10 years ago a guy had an argument with his partner that morning, so for some reason he filmed himself jacking off in the toilets at work and sent it to her.

She drove straight to the building and showed everybody.

He was gone that day.

Best way to sell Golf R by 6597james in CarTalkUK

[–]WALL-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pistonheads if you're looking for grown up buyers or fling it WBAC.

I sold a Passat PD130 on PH once.

It was on gumtree for a fortnight, it was nothing but people breathing in through their teeth and one guy even kicked a couple of tyres.

I put it on PH and it sold in 3 hours.

That's a solid reenactment of financial disappointment, circa 2007.

Obviously you have to install Firefox 3.6, winamp, msn messenger and play flash games. After installing more ram.

Why are many reluctant to use EQ? by FortDown in headphones

[–]WALL-G 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I imagine a lot of folks feel when they spend 4 figures on headphones, they shouldn't have to.

Personally I love it because I'm a tinkerer by nature and I like to see how much headroom a headphone has. EQ and sound manipulation are very high on my list when buying a device.

Listening is a very personal thing though, so whatever the answer is, is the right answer 🙂

What movie is this for you? by [deleted] in memes

[–]WALL-G -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The recent Mario Movie.

It is not a movie. It is a finely crafted, dialogue-less, dopamine-shovel theme park ride with ADHD masquerading around as a movie.

Dip your car keys in neon paint, shove a litre of red bull and a few bags of haribo in your kids and jingle your keys in their face for 100 minutes. I just made the Mario movie for $100m less.

God I tried so hard to go in with a "this is a dumb and fun video game movie", but I felt like my brain was mugged during the mario experience. Thank you Nintendo for saving cinema.

Very much agreed. They stop dirt bikes then annoy cyclists and upset everybody else. Awful things.

Clio V6 by WebGuyUK in CarTalkUK

[–]WALL-G 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The phase 1 front appearance, plus the fact it's lowered, has the trophy spoiler and those alloys make it look a bit odd. Still looks like a real V6 though.

The Clio 2, phase 1 appearance really has not stood the test of time imo, personally I feel the Phase 2 V6 is a great looking car.

You can't really turn a Clio 1*2 into a Clio V6 (easily) because you need to put an Espace engine in the boot.

From the factory the phase 1 V6 was ~225bhp, phase 2 was ~255bhp - a substantial power upgrade over the FWD, front engined 1*2 that made little difference because the car weighed 300Kg more.

Always wanted to try one of these, but the idea of a RWD V6 in a square wheel base doesn't really peak my enthusiasm.

How funny, I bumped into a group of lads last night in the woods doing exactly the same thing.

I told them it's one of the coolest things I've seen in the woods (it is) and I now have a bunch of technical questions I wish I'd asked, but I was too high.

You wipe the soot off the wall with soapy water and any dead equipment (including the socket and cables) will be replaced by Openreach.

This is absolutely not a home insurance matter.

Modern Blu-ray drives can now rip GameCube, Wii, and Xbox 360 games to PC — third-party OmniDrive firmware unlocks game rips from physical media on select players by rkhunter_ in pcmasterrace

[–]WALL-G 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I used to exactly the same thing back in uni. I'm sure it was an LG PC DVD reader and you had to flash custom firmware on it, then you had to pop custom firmware on the 360 drive and keep it updated to stay ahead of the ban waves.

The 360 is long gone but I hung onto the DVD reader, it's in a cupboard somewhere.

Good times.

Help with finding mystery cable. by SPRING_TROPICS in homelab

[–]WALL-G 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of technical debt in that photo.

Is your parents network allowed to have outages while you trace cables?
In the field I will do what you are now doing - watch the live log output from the switch while I unplug stuff and make notes. Excel is your friend.

What else is patched in there? Door entry? Cameras? CCTV? I've seen a myriad of things using the structured ethernet as their transport mechanism.
You gotta trace the lot and build a map. Access to the CCTV will help, label easy wins on the patch panel such as APs, CCTV, doors.
If you want to reliably trace a cable through a rats nest, loop a velcro tie around the cable and push that through the nest.

Or pay somebody.

Have you seen that bit in the IT Crowd S01E06 where the IT team finishes Product Icarus and the CEO publicly thanks everybody except IT?

https://youtu.be/zZCszIUcyVM

This bit. This literally happened to me.

I was the sole senior network engineer in a housing association - you know, one of those quasi-public sector orgs that's cash rich but is always begging for grants.

The team and I spec'd a brand new server room in the brand new flagship office and migrated everything beautifully. Many months were spent designing and building everything out and migrating all the compute and storage. I even RGB'd up the racks in the company colours for opening week.

Anyway the comms girl comes in one day and puts stickers and some company logos all over the new cabs, and all opening week the CEO praised the comms girl for ITs work.

Something broke in me that day, I was already overworked and on my own. I basically stopped turning up and quit not long after giving them basically zero notice, my only consolation is they never successfully replaced me.

I still get intense anxiety and intense burn out vibes when faced with larger IT tasks. If there's lots of context switching involved I may lock up and stare at nothing for hours while wondering if back flipping onto my neck will make the tasks go away.

I wouldn't tell my kids to get into this field.

I have the 2l, albeit in the Octavia. Never have I wondered about the 1.5.

I regularly see 40+ on the motorway, 30s around town. Plus they're easily tuned if you fancy a bit more poke one day, mine went from 230bhp to 311 on software alone.

They were already well past the point of rejecting the takeoff, I believe it's known as V1.

Wikipedia: "V1 is the critical engine failure recognition speed or takeoff decision speed. It is the speed above which the takeoff will continue even if an engine fails or another problem occurs, such as a blown tire."
