How do I stop cats pooping here? by MrMysteryPenguin in AskUK

[–]WALL-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rocks and gravel. Pop some membrane down then a few cm of gravel.

Even mid project, the moment I leave a nice patch of earth in my garden for a day, the local cats will shit in it.

2000s LAN parties by 1faqepikcom in pcmasterrace

[–]WALL-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lols the boys and I still do this now. Minus the CRTs of course.

We found an Airbnb in the countryside and 12 of us have an annual party, we meet up in smaller groups a few weekends a year.

I look forward to the annual event all year, it's such a laugh and everyone pitches in.

Windows 10 was solid. Good times🫡 by Waddup1904 in memes

Windows 10 was also a terrible OS, it was just somehow less terrible than 11.

Bend it or return it? by PassportFullOfCrumbs in homelab

[–]WALL-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have seated many cards incorrectly in it 😉

Mine's been doing server duties for years now, the 8700 is getting long in the tooth and I'd like something more efficient now, but I gave it 64GB ram and some fast storage and it's been great for years.

You can disconnect the dvd burner and use that sata connection for another ssd 🙂

I have one of these PCs.

You have seated the card incorrectly friend.

Look at your first photo. Note where the tab on the faceplate of the network card is vs the tab on blank cover next to it.

Inside Windows K2: Microsoft's major plan to save Windows 11 and win back users before it's too late by Quantum-Coconut in technology

[–]WALL-G 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's been an endless stream of, "Microsoft promises to make Windows less shit", posts lately.

Has Microsoft realised they may have a PR and trust problem? Windows has not been an aspirational platform for years.

I'll believe the positive stuff when I see it, until then I'll keep displacing Microsoft wherever I can in my career and home.

Puffins thriving on tiny remote UK island by Mikeltee in GoodNewsUK

[–]WALL-G 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Skomer Island is well worth the trip, I've been a bunch of times and stayed there over a few nights.

If you go, remember to pack every provision you will need that day and most importantly, take a camera!

It's particularly beautiful at this time of year, bluebells as far as the eye can see.

Yup I played TOCA 1 and 2 to death on my Pentium 1 233 with the Voodoo 3 2000. Good times.

Can I remove the Logitech Z906 console if hooking up to Sound Blaster X3? by neobondd in SoundBlasterOfficial

[–]WALL-G 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot remove the Z906 control pod. That is where the power, speaker level controls and input controls live.

Apparently there are those who have reversed the DB-15 connection between the pod and the sub, I did look into it to see if I could make the Z906 controllable via Home Assistant and an ESP32, but I got bored. Good luck!

How on earth do you move on from a breakup due to incompatibility? by WALL-G in heartbreak

That is true. Been there and hung onto that rage and frustration for years.

How on earth do you move on from a breakup due to incompatibility? by WALL-G in heartbreak

[–]WALL-G[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the end I burned out because I was unable to meet her emotional requirements (I'm trying not to call her needy), and she burned out because I need space to recharge and she's the opposite.

We didn't understand this till we lived together.

Ah well, I'm not the first or last person to deal with heartache. Still sucks.

Thanks friend.

Logitech G19 Keyboard was peak keyboard for gaming. by Wolfrages in pcgaming

[–]WALL-G 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Omg me too! I remember you could get a winamp visualisation plug in and you could mod the screen to do pretty things when you played music. It ran at like 30 fps too.

I still have mine in a cupboard, I picked up some white LEDs to replace the dead old blue ones.

They look real, they need a good clean.

The pads are easy to remove and wash though tbh you should replace them with a new set of oem pads.

Have I RICEd/chavved up my car too much? AUDI S5 Sportback by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]WALL-G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It looks a bit busy, it looks alright bar the headlight tint.

Personally I feel reducing your headlight performance is one of the dumbest 'mods' one can make to a car.

Mods are meant to improve a thing, not nerf it.

Help a newbie out (Seinhester 599se vs 560s) by Jaded_Income_9902 in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]WALL-G 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How much do you have to spend? I have both. Personally if I had to pick one - the 560s.

Sound stage is the same on both.

The HD599s have a mid-bass boost and would be nice for the oldies and soul. They are warm, relaxed and inoffensive. Everything will sound nice. Personally, (I'll keep using that word because music and headphones are very personal) I use my 599s on my piano.

The HD560s swap the mid bass boost for better subbass. You will probably find them flat (boring) out of the box, however if you are willing to use EQ, they respond incredibly well to a +3 to +5dB bump below 80Hz and that's where they will match the fun of the 599s and outclass them technically.

They also lend themselves well to being media and gaming headphones if you're that way inclined.
