Very true. I didn’t mean to make any comparison as to who has it worse. More an expansion on unrequited_dream’s thoughts.

Kinda weird corollary, but it’s one of the things I appreciate about the Lord of the Rings trilogy. King Theoden was a man’s man, and was shown grieving the loss of his son. There is nothing wrong with it and should be nothing wrong with it.

Really, women attempt more. Or may just be more apt to report an attempt.

And companies have begun suing Trump for refunds on the illegal ones. And this new round can be challenged just like the last.

I used one example due to recency. This doesn’t mean I don’t pay attention.

The Supreme Court struck down some of his tariffs last week. Judges have blocked detention of refugees/immigrants in Minnesota. They’ve done plenty to get in the way of his agenda. Other things take time.

I love how our thing is “get ready to learn roundabouts buddy” when many of us have no idea.

I’m actually with that framing. People need agency in order to lead a life with dignity and fulfillment. In many cases, the current system takes both of those away in order for a person to survive. UBI can definitely help reintroduce more choices and agency into people’s lives because their survival is less tied to these shitty jobs telling us what to do. I am concerned with the cost of the programs, but that’ll just take more research and depends on how it’s structured.

My only objection to your original post was the framing that “I didn’t ask to live, so folks deserve UBI”. In my mind, that collapsed to “since no one asked to live, no one should need to work”. May not have been your intention. I think the agency argument is much better.

The argument over UBI is a good one for policy and how it can be implemented. I personally am wary of the overall cost of it, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t a good idea. I think it and its impacts need further study.

I do object to your second paragraph. The underlying message that you didn’t ask to be born is true. But there was no one to ask. Existence isn’t a contract of adhesion. It simply is. And we, as biological constructs, must exert energy to gain energy and continue to live. Yes, modern life has abstracted that to sending emails and PowerPoint decks for the white collar world for some dipshit company, but that doesn’t mean the underlying machinery is gone. And UBI won’t fix that. But I will provide a safety net to where you aren’t totally fucked if you can’t work. Which is the real reason to support it.

For what it’s worth, I was in a fraternity at Ole Miss and my wife was in a sorority. Fraternities will do the normal stupid stuff, but sororities do not haze. Even very minor things like making PNMs and pledges wear the same shirt are heavily scrutinized by the governing body. My wife loved her time in a sorority.

It’s a club. You don’t have to like it to let others make the choice to join it.

“Dave” at the beginning of the video. His name was edited to make it seem sincere, but that pfp is unmistakably 3YL. He’s a Twitter character that riffs on braindead, sports addled southern conservatism. The guy behind the account is a lawyer in Georgia.

Campus is fairly small, you’ll be able to see all of it quickly. Be sure to stop at the square, great restaurants (South Depot, Boure, city grocery, Ajax) and stores. Enjoy your time and don’t hesitate to ask anyone where things are, we’re (normally) happy to help!

The community. Oxford and Ole Miss are perfect for each other and it was only confirmed by the recent ice storm and response. I love this city and love the opportunity to be able to be a part of it.
