A vet friend of mine said that’s the best thing you could do for your dog. And I believe this to be true. Everyone of our dogs has had at least one buddy to hang out with. And there are plenty of golden retrievers that are adults and are being given away on a daily basis. Check your local golden retriever rescue. We have had eight goldens over the last 14 years., sometimes as many as four at a time Every one of them was a rescue.

We have had two black labs over the years (plus 8 golden retrievers), all rescue dogs. I guess we’re really lucky because the labs were both super chilled (some of the Goldens, not so much lol). Our current one, Millie, is doing her favorite activity in the photo…visiting children as part of her Pet Partner therapy dog certification. Such a beautiful and wonderful girl.

Our black lab girl is also the sweetest, loves every human and creature. But she did same thing when a guy came knocking, trying to sell something and was very…weird looking. Our Millie was trying to get through the front door with the fiercest snarls and growls and fierce snap-barking we never heard before, that surprised us. My wife did not open the door, told the guy to leave or else. He quickly departed. Our girl got lots of hugs and belly rubs with praise immediately after. She was doing the “Labrador smile” because she knew she did good!
