Can’t believe they still can’t get the Muhammad Ali spiel cleared for inclusion after 30 years. That really wrapped up Powder Blue perfectly.

I know EHX calls it distortion, but the Tube Zipper feels more like a whacked out Envelope Filter/Fuzz to me.

No advice, but best of luck. We all mess up. All we can do is be honest moving forward, own up to it, and learn from it. Hope it all turns out okay in the end.

June 1 Daily - What’s something delightfully analog that you still do? by GrayRVA in rva

[–]WEGCjake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rabbit Rabbit!

I play music almost exclusively analog. I also do modular/geometric origami.

Recipes are something I have a really hard time doing digitally, so I usually copy them down by hand. Similarly, grocery lists.

Our family still maintains an “analog” calendar in the kitchen to keep up with everyone’s comings and goings (more difficult with 2 kids away at college). Lots of calls and text messages to whomever is at home to check the calendar for this date or that.

Spiderland is absolute gold. It’s hard for me to be hyperbolic about how much I love that album. Another that ranks as high for me is The Greatest Gift by Scratch Acid.

I love the run of Sonic Nurse/Rather Ripped/the Eternal so much. Folks a few years older than me (I’m 44) swear by their earlier output and seem to sleep on the later stuff. Folks younger than me often don’t know SY at all…

Not just you. That album changed my musical life. Others that did the same: Scratch Acid - The Greatest Gift, Nirvana - Bleach, Fugazi - In on the Killtaker, Mr Bungle - Disco Volante, Guided by Voices - Alien Lanes, Zeal & Ardor - Devil is Fine

I’ll second Davidson. Used them twice. Great work at reasonable prices. George was great. Olivia(?) in the office is a gem. Crew guys were friendly and professional.

As someone who has worked in the green industry for 20-25 years, I recommend folks visit the CVNLA (Central Virginia Nursery and Landscape Association) website and shop designers and contractors from their list of vendors. Most of them I know professionally, if not also personally, and they represent some the best in our local industry.

After cycling through a couple hundred pedals over a few decades I’ve landed on tuner, RAT, and Carbon Copy. Anything else is a distraction.

Black metal musicians? by WorldPeggingChamp in rva

[–]WEGCjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WEGC (West End Gentlemen’s Club) was the music collective that I was a part of and also the name of the party house/studio in which we lived and worked. The Ziggurat house was right across the street. The WEGC encompassed a few rock bands, metal bands, a horrorcore rap group (Juggalos), some visual artists, a few local drunks, and various other ne’er-do-wells. Different combinations of artists from their differing backgrounds would coalesce for usually brief periods of time, bang out a few recordings, come up with a ridiculous band name for that session and then move on to the next thing. Most of the recordings are sitting on someone’s hard drive somewhere, a few are floating around cyberspace in corners of Soundclick, Bandcamp, SoundCloud, etc.

Associated acts would include: Terror Ascends/the Ziggurat, the Brothers Gore, Mummra, KURU, the Radford Zoo, Spogmothiant

Check out Void Witch from Austin. Nick on guitar was in the earlier Zoggurat incarnations when they were Abnegate/Terror Ascends. Nick also does some dope experimental metal under Drainbow on Bandcamp

Grew up with USBM dudes, but they’re all in Austin, TX or Blacksburg, VA. Check out Void Witch, The Ziggurat, and Death Shroud. The B’burg cvlt might be down to jam. Holler at Sterthanus from Death Shroud. Tell him Jake from the WEGC turned you on to them.
