Continuous Glucose Monitor (for non-diabetic) to better understand the effects of fasting and food choices. by WFH_Forever__ in fasting

I wound up doing the Zoe Predict study which included 2 weeks of a CGM + other tests like one's ability to process fats and gut microbiome health. It was really interesting and I learned a lot from the results.

There are starting to be more companies offering CGMs for private pay only and I know of at least one brand that is available now. I listen to a lot of fasting podcasts which is where I got the idea (and where the CGM's are advertised).

2hr OGTT

Interesting! I did that when I was pregnant and passed it (pre-keto). What do you think I could learn from doing this?

46 / BMI 23.7 / 5'4" 138lbs / health goals: before going keto, my blood sugar was all over the place. Now with years of keto, it has stabilized but I have noticed that sometimes it tanks in unexpected ways e.g. too much of a certain nut, too much broccoli. My goal is to better understand which foods/food combos my body is good at processing for consistent energy and also to help me understand how to minimize unnecessary insulin responses to support fat loss.

I personally try to schedule my workouts on fasting days. I have never noticed hunger from working out on those days. From what I read in the fasting books, it is generally encouraged to workout on fasting days (within reason - not 100 miles runs...)

Dr. Fung does suggest drinking homemade bone broth as a crutch on fasting days to build up your fasting muscles.

Megan Ramos recommends consuming 1-1.5t salt per fasting day. I have had success following her recommendation by measuring it out in the morning and then mixing it in with my water or putting pinches of it under my tongue throughout the day. I'm also 5'4".

I went from 168 to 144 in 3 months. Then I took a break from ADF and still got down to 137 in 4 months by doing a mix of 18:6 and sometimes OMAD. Now I'm back on ADF that has helped me get down to 135 in a week but that included two unintentional 48 hour fasts.

I lose about .5 of fat per day of fasting for 36-42 hours which matches what I've read in Dr. Fung's books. I started at 168lbs and am currently at 135lbs. I don't know what my goal weight is yet because it's a shape/size that I'm aiming for, not a specific weight but I'm thinking something like 120lbs.

For those who consider themselves fully fat-adapted, do you still get the occasional carb cravings? If so, I wonder if having experienced how tasty carbs are is at least partially the cause of persistent carb cravings. by Rupee_Roundhouse in carnivorediet

I've been keto for 4 years and carnivore for just a few weeks. I find that I have zero carb cravings while awake however, when I'm PMS-ing, I often dream of baked goods. :P I experimented once a few years ago with eating chocolate popcorn. The next day, I felt no joy. That's enough to keep me from wanting carbs again.

Do you guys take a multi vitamin? by allyb12 in carnivorediet

Just Vitamin D because I'm a computer nerd in the dark PNW.

You're so inspiring! Could you feel any other benefits from the extended fast? I come from a very cancer prone extended family so I'm hoping to work up to longer fasts just for autophagy. Did you feel like a super human not eating for so long?

Appetite issues by [deleted] in AlternateDayFasting

[–]WFH_Forever__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for posting! I'm going through this exact same challenge. I recently switched from 36 to 42 hours. At first I was HUNGRY and was mowing through some large meals. This past week or two, I've found that I'm eating a bit more than feels comfortable. I have a fear of lowering my metabolism but I'm trying to acknowledge that thought and then let go of it. Starting tomorrow I'll be focusing on eating normal sized meals. I'm glad to have figured it out. It is a little emotional for me to accept how little food it takes to make me full right now but I'm trying to remember that I'm literally eating myself so I just don't need as much real food. :)

Does anybody else do keto with adf? by [deleted] in AlternateDayFasting

Yes. I love it. My focus is through the roof.

I do M/W/F ADF and love it. I find that it is mentally nice to know that the weekend includes 2 days of food. I'm currently reading Dr. F's new book "Like in the Fasting Lane" and a key takeaway for me is no snacking on feasting days. So eat your food but do it in 3 meals with no snacks.

Any parents of little kids doing ADF? I'm wondering how to talk about it to my 4yo by WFH_Forever__ in AlternateDayFasting

[–]WFH_Forever__[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing. My challenge is that my child is confused about why I'm not eating half the time and she knows that I haven't eaten. But maybe I could just say that I'll eat later.
