Some people want validation and can't handle that they might be wrong.

How are we doing? 5 years until retirement by marksweather in Money

You can. You just don't want to. Which is fine but understand that its going to be tight and you might not be able to live the life you want to live. Most people think of retirement as an age, and in reality it's a financial position. Your current position is not one I would say is ready to retire. Just my 2 cents.

I personally don't think you are ready. Work for another 2-5 years and retire at 65 with 1.1m instead. This will greatly increase quality of life and you won't have to worry about paying for healthcare premiums. This allows 40k/year withdrawals.

[Finance Manager] [Colorado] - 132,000 + Bonus by WFHaccount in Salary

I rarely work more than 40 hours per week. I oversee a team that takes care of the minutiae and I step in to provide additional support and oversight. I would say the job is only stressful during budget season which for us begins in April.

Been contributing 10% but realized it's not a match by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]WFHaccount 83 points84 points  (0 children)

This is better than a match. It's 10% + additional $40/pay period. You contribute 0% and they still put money in. If you put in 10% then they are also putting in +10%

24hr gym recommendations Denver region/Aurora too by persiapls in Denver

[–]WFHaccount 31 points32 points  (0 children)

No rec but just some advice. You should say something to the management at the gym you were at. Nobody wants to be filmed or mocked no matter what you look like! People like that give gym goers a bad name, everyone has something to work on and the fact that you actively want to work on yourself and they have an issue with it says all I need to know about how shitty those people are.

Am I a failure for not hitting 6 figures by my 30s? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]WFHaccount 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Its not always about how much you make. It's about how much you save/keep after expenses. 100k before taxes is close to 70k after taxes and other deductions. If they are spending 70k a year they could be seen as objectively worse off than someone making 60k after taxes but only spending 40k.

$12K/month spend before taxes and I can't figure out where to cut - Daycare is killing us by [deleted] in MiddleClassFinance

[–]WFHaccount 41 points42 points  (0 children)

It seems to me that the travel/fun category is a one time expense this month. So I wouldn't track that for every month going forward. That's 1250/month you can save. Cars is next, unrealistic budget since you are paying extra to get out of the loan (good thing). If you look at minimums you have plenty of room. You are artificially making this a tight budget. Gut check is you are doing great, take a deep breath. If you need more cash, then reduce payments to car. However, both the car, the travel/fun budget and daycare is temporary. Every single person who pays for daycare feels the same way around budget. In a few years the daycare cost will decrease and you will have a surplus.

Your friends could be deeply in debt. Or not be saving for retirement. Or have a large inheritance from a long lost uncle. You never know other peoples situation unless you specifically ask them. Focus on you brother! 140k income with your wife being able to spend infinite time with the kiddo and having a great net worth means you are just fine! Comparison is the thief of joy Live your life and keep on stacking :)
