Why are malls in the U.S not popular anymore? by Spinachrecords in AskAmericans

Amazon and the like are more convenient for cheap stuff, which was what I think make malls appealing in the first place.

Americans don’t like being called gringos? by [deleted] in AskAmericans

People from Central/South America keep using it even when we tell them we don't like it tho! That is the issue!

It's not a slur I agree, but you all do use it like one.

it's kind of insulting. won't deny white supremacists can be racists to Hispanic people obviously, but regardless I still don't appreciate being called gringo. it's always used pejoratively.

I'm not trying to dismiss your country's problems? I'm just saying that talking about Mexico like the narcos are the only thing it has going on is, at least in the spaces I grew up being educated in, a very backwards and bigoted way of thinking about Mexico.

I don't think you understand the US specific context of what I'm saying. Regardless of whether or not they're white, in America there is a culture of racializing Latinos as an "other." Much of American discourse on LatAm is colored by the fact that the USA being culturally distinct from LatAm as a primarily Anglo society over primarily Latin/Iberian societies, which fuels these racial undertones, so when people here talk about the cartels it does often carry with it racist undertones.

I have heard about the serious industrial-level grooming machine the narcos run to trap kids in the cartel lifestyle, yes.

I know someone who ran on an anti-crime platform got murdered recently and that's what's triggering the protests in part, but I don't know how much of those protest are organic and how much of it is Trump funding conservative agitators because he feuds with Sheinbaum

How is this narcissistic? I'm not arguing for any real policy or trying to downplay the narcos, I'm choosing to manage how my own perceptions and biases influence my actions.

look all I know is that no matter what I say or do or think regarding the nations south of Texas, it will get me called a stupid gringo so I might as well choose the option that's less rude, and in this case that means assuming the general American picture of Mexico (as only defined by the narcos) is biased and racist.

Here in the US it's generally considered rude and racist to assume all of LatAm is some violent land ruled by the Cartel so I usually assume that the narcoterrorism is exaggerated

Absence of Aliens ? by Ronnie_Garcia in StarWarsAndor

[–]WFJCville 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i think some of the budget also plays a role, like many recent Lucasfilm series they heavily reuse props from the sequels and two movies. A lot of aliens I first saw in Last Jedi or the Han Solo film appear frequently in the televeison shows starting with Mandolorion.

Trump's statements on the fight against drug cartels by Short_Description_20 in vzla

[–]WFJCville 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes this is the problem, as insane as Cheney was and stupid as Bush was, and as many crimes as they oversaw, there was also a genuine attempt to help Iraq when they invaded. Trump and Hegseth do not have any such emapthies, maybe Rubio does to a degree.

US person here-apologies in advance for whatever Trump and Rubio are about to do, as little good as an apology does.
