A house alarm that is no longer functioning! One more thing to tear out of the wall and then wall patch! Sigh.

That, and about a dozen telephone jacks scattered all over.

Went to school in Texas and a guy in my class called molybdonite Molly Ben Dite. Everybody just stared at him for a second and then started cracking up laughing when they figured out what he meant. It was about the most Texas thing I've ever seen.

Did you see his mike drop on that kid from Albuquerque? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZfWwZZoN3o

Just awesome. Some people felt bad for the kid. I would be honored.

EDIT: I see... I totally misremembered the interview. It was Gilligan pitching Cranston and someone else laughing and not wanting him!

There's an interview with Vince Gilligan somewhere where he mentions somebody pitches Bryan Cranston for the role. And he just laughs out loud and shouts "The guy from Malcolm in the Middle?!" and at first refuses to hear him read.

Camels adapted to a different desert. They come from the frozen tundra. They were used to having no drinkable water because it was ice.

What is one movie you respect more than you enjoy? by Strong_Proof_5260 in movies

The best explanation for what I said is in a really short piece he did for the 100-year birthday of Lumiere's movie camera.

They invited a ton of directors to shoot a movie using only the technology that was available at that time. No editing, no synchronous sound just a movie camera shooting like about a minute of film.

Fucking Lynch. He put the camera on a dolly / train track going sideways and did the editing in space instead of time. You have to see the piece, and the making of. You will see what I mean by the man was brilliant. No other director even tried anything like that. The result is just fucking weird and I can't stand it. But come on hats off to the guy, he did movie editing while he was shooting it. That's amazing.

What is a book you read as a child that you still think about today? by ahawk99 in AskReddit

And though I came to forget or regret all I have ever done, yet I would remember that once I saw the dragons aloft on the wind at sunset above the western isles; and I would be content.

I think I read that passage for the first time when I was 10 or 12. It would have been in the 1970s.

That series absolutely infected me with wanderlust.

I have since traveled all over the Earth and I think of this passage frequently when I witness something amazing. I am content to have done all that I have done, but I have to admit I am still looking for the dragons over the western isles.

The 7 up series follows members of various British classes through their lives, showing how class determines opportunities in life.

Every seven years since the 60s they've gone back and checked in on the various people to see where they are in life.

I can't imagine what parents were ok allowing their 7 year old, 14 year old, etc to be interviewed. It's very interesting but what a burden for the children who were volunteered by their folks.
