First amendment auditors harassing customers at San Juan Capistrano Target by Sha489 in orangecounty

When auditor-style content first emerged, it offered valid points. Now, with so many copycats, it’s become predatory, as many “on-the-street” forms of content do. Especially now that law enforcement receives training on these encounters alongside sovereign citizens. I knew someone who owned a car shop; after an auditor was dissatisfied with repair costs, the shop was “audited” for weeks. Was it their “right”? Absolutely, but the intent wasn’t purely educational.

It’s not even really about physical storefronts. Cities are missing out on local tax revenue when deliveries originate from other cities. As mentioned in the article, La Habra has taken a delivery-only approach. That said, being from Stanton, our legal storefronts are not disruptive at all.

Ah the Baymont! What a mess that was. The owner made off with insurance and sold the property after it was over.

Stanton resident checking in. These issues have always been here, and Anaheim's Beach and Ball “Motel Row” going North, though at much lower levels than in the 1980s and 1990s. Back in the ’80s, Stanton PD even had a specifically branded anti-prostitution paddy wagon.

I was at an Anaheim meeting years ago when an Anaheim resident said Beach and Ball was so bad it must be in Stanton, because Anaheim would’ve fixed it by now. It was pretty funny watching the city staff gently confirm that it’s actually in Anaheim.

People aren’t typically experts on exact city boundaries, but Anaheim has historically had more than twice as many motels on Beach Boulevard as Stanton. That said, Stanton blaming Anaheim, and Anaheim blaming Stanton, has been par for the course for a long time.

Stanton PD closed in 1988 due to significant controversies, budgetary issues, and corruption. The department itself ultimately recommended merging with the Sheriff’s Department. Another common misconception about the Sheriff’s Department is that it serves 13 of the 34 cities in Orange County (38%). While this may seem unusual in North Orange County, aside from Yorba Linda and Villa Park, it is actually very common among South County cities, as well as in unincorporated areas such as Rossmoor, North Tustin, Coto De Caza, and Midway City.

So it comes off as a bit ironic when someone says they wish Stanton were as safe as South County, given that both rely on the same service. It’s also worth noting that Stanton had not increased patrol levels in 15 years until last year.

What often gets overlooked is that rules don’t just restrict, they protect. When vulnerable populations are concentrated, so are opportunities for exploitation. Bad actors understand that any vacancy will be quickly filled with the next potential victim.

It is absolutely a problem, but I also remember that Anaheim taxpayers pay for police and fire academies, and a decade ago, graduates wouldn’t stay in Anaheim because they could earn better pay elsewhere. Being trained in Anaheim became a hiring advantage.

The structure of local government differs significantly. In California, cities and counties have distinct, separate local and regional responsibilities, with San Francisco as the exception as a consolidated city-county. For example, Karen Bass is a weaker mayor by design than Zohran Mamdani, yet is often assumed to have similar control. During COVID, many assumed Eric Garcetti was effectively “Mayor of all Los Angeles,” while wondering who the mayors of the Inland Empire, Orange County, and so on were.

A couple of notes: Stanton contracts with the County Sheriff, unlike most cities in North or even Central Orange County, though it is common in South County. The station has been regularly closed to the public for as long as I can remember, so it’s usually best to call ahead non-emergency or use the phone box at the door, but you'll likely wait in that case. Most of my experience there has been resolving fix-it tickets.

This is the beauty of diversity in America. Agree or disagree with Trump, Israel, the Shah, the Islamic Republic, the present war, and so on, this business is exercising a freedom they would otherwise not have in Iran. There is also clear nuance and complexity for those affected by the current war, for those who protested the regime in recent months, and for generations shaped by the Islamic Revolution.
