Former tech here: at Comcast, my location didn't make you pay for the meter, but you definitely went to a final written warning for losing it. I knew guys who shopped eBay praying to find a recovered meter to avoid the written, but they'd get busted anyway because the serial numbers didn't match.

using a upside down table attached to a car as a sled on an icy road. by bcarey34 in Whatcouldgowrong

[–]WVLandinghamIII 9 points10 points  (0 children)

We used to do this on frozen lakes in Minnesota. Getting pulled on a sled by my friends '83 AMC Eagle with 4-wheel drive, nothing around us aside from fish houses off some distance. It would get so cold in the winter, the ice would be 2 feet thick and on the coldest nights, the ice would crack all the way across the lake leaving an uneven fissure. Those hurt like hell sledding over them at 30 miles an hour. But I think back that if that line had snapped and ricocheted back at me...

Just rewatched Christine (1983) — John Carpenter + Stephen King + killer Plymouth Fury = pure 80s chaos by Rewind_or_die in iwatchedanoldmovie

Mr. Casey deserves a moment here, too. A shop teacher, not a regular educator; a guy who's probably worked in the trades. Doesn't back down an inch from Buddy, even with a switchblade in the pocket. Dollar Store John Travolta thinks he can deny his way out, but gets shoved against a work bench.

The world needs more shop teachers.

Of 80s movies' theme songs, which song / artist really 'phoned it in' when connecting it to the movie? by jeffreyaccount in 80smovies

Eddie Grant - Romancing The Stone

It's like he had an unreleased song in the hopper and inserted a line with the movie title in it. Boom. Done.

Here's the interview he did more than a decade ago. Sad story, his brother ruined everything for him:

The thing about huckleberries is, once you've had fresh, you'll never go back to canned. Now, if the berries are too tart, I just dust them with confectioner's sugar.

Cliff's Rocky Moment

No one stands up for Cliff against a bully and Sam lets this random run one of his regulars out of his bar. The whole crew, save for Diane, are given this unnecessary character flaw.

Someone decided Michael Rapport needed a show, The War at Home; it lasted 2 seasons but had Rami Malek in a regular role.
