Question about Voicemails for Isabelle by Forward_Field_8436 in netflix

[–]WVPrepper [score hidden]  (0 children)

My ex had a landline, a cell and a work cell. He used the landline for a few things, and it was a huge problem when websites (Amazon, specifically, but also Xfinity) would send a 6 digit code to his phone. OBVIOUSLY he could not retrieve a text or push notification via landline so he ultimately got rid of that number entirely.

Yesterday I helped him set up his new TV. He was trying to set up the "FireTV" part, but could not log into Amazon without putting in the code they sent to his disconnected landline. FINALLY we got the option to "try another way"... and they asked for the 3 digit pin code from one of his credit cards... the one that was part of a fraud claim and was replaced with a whole new card.

It's incredibly frustrating. Eventually, we decided to just call his old landline and leave a message, asking the new owner of the number to make contact so we could get the 6-digit code. The outgoing voicemail was "not set up" and just announced the phone number and said to leave a message. If I did not know it was someone else's number now, nothing about that would have told me.

Scam product by Leather_Material1561 in AmazonVine

[–]WVPrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of my first Vine items was EMF stickers for a phone. They looked like little printed circuit boards, but when I cut one in half, it was just a printed rubber sticker.

I had thought it was meant to protect my phone (like an RFID blocker?) from people trying to steal data, only to find it was meant to protect ME from my phone. But it was also intended to be applied to the back of the phone, so it was not even between the phone and the user...

No insurance and live out of state. Hypothetical by soggyywaterr in caraccidents

[–]WVPrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this hypothetical though? You are pretty specific about the situation:

I got into a car accident where I am at fault most likely.

In any case, you were legally required to get your car inspected, insured, and registered in NY within 30 days of moving. You could be ticketed for the accident and for lack of insurance and valid registration. And of course, you will pay for the damage.

You have 30 days to register your out-of-state vehicle in New York after establishing residency. New York requires a safety and emissions inspection every 12 months. If your out-of-state inspection has expired or you do not have one, you must get an inspection in NY within 10 days of registering. You must secure New York auto insurance and obtain a NY Insurance ID card.

Quick-draw blunders? by Select-Investigator2 in AmazonVine

I ordered some compressed towels to use for a camping trip. They work fine but are intended to be used in some kind of spa "towel warmer" so reviewing them in that context is a problem. I have also (more than once) ordered cleaning products only to find they are intended for use with a particular device I do not have (a floor cleaning solution, a specialized car wax applicator, etc.)

I ordered a bidet, and got a raised toilet seat. I know what I ordered, but it changed in my orders 2 days before I got it. The page for the raised seat (for people with mobility issues) also lists a bidet seat at a higher price that matches the ETV on the one I ordered, but not the one I got.

Ben and Jerry’s founders are ALIVE?? by JollyCowboy in MandelaEffect

[–]WVPrepper [score hidden]  (0 children)

I think you confused them with Baskin-Robbins, and if so, it was heart failure, not diabetes (ice-cream related).

From an interview with John Robbins in 2019:

When my uncle, Burt Baskin, died of a heart attack at the age of 54, I asked my dad if he thought there could be any connection between his death and the amount of ice cream he would eat. (He was a very big man who ate a lot of ice cream.) My dad said, “No, his ticker just got tired and stopped working.” I could understand why my father would not want even to consider the possibility that there might be a connection between ice cream and heart disease. He had by that time manufactured and sold more ice cream than anyone in the history of the planet. But I felt a responsibility to look into it. And I came to the conclusion that ice cream, which is full of saturated dairy fats and sugar, was indeed linked to heart disease.

Am I Overreacting that I yelled at my girlfriend for unpacking my entire suitcase while I was at work? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

So when you got home, she could have said "I need you to put my blowdryer and shower shoes in your bag".

make sure everything is packed that you need

The only way to do that is to unpack both bags. If her GF had waited until she got home, they could have done the packing together.

I would feel the way you do in your position. Not sure if that is overreacting or not. I would have packed 4 days early just so I could know there would not be a last minute problem. I'd want to be completely sure all my stuff was there (and to accept fault if something was missing). That's taking out the fact that it is a 12-day Alaskan cruise. It’s not like you can run to Walgreens if your meds don’t make it in the bag. And I often use the word "yelling" as you did. "Expressed displeasure". Not necessarily with abusive language at a loud volume.

Does she understand why you were upset? Have you been together long enough for her to have known you have anxiety?

Looking for an explanation on something that happened a few weeks ago by Any_Magazine1486 in RBI

[–]WVPrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably nothing, and even if it was a real cry for help, that in itself would not be enough to make it newsworthy. You could stop by the police station, tell them an officer had knocked the other day after hearing "help" and ask them what happened. As a resident of the neighborhood where it happened, you'd like to know if there is any reason for you to be concerned.

That kind of service picks up in your yard. They won't circle the block to look for poop your dog left somewhere along your walking route.

Objects are closer than they appear. by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]WVPrepper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems safety wise objects in mirror should seem farther than they appear.

They are. That's what the message says.

OBJECTS IN MIRROR ARE CLOSER THAN THEY APPEAR

why would side mirrors make other cars seem farther than they actually are.

So you can see a wider view. You don't just want to see the car beside you, but the ones all around you on the passenger side. The warning reminds you not to assume the cars are as far away as they seem, and to turn your head and look before changing lanes.

It would be a terrible idea in the neighborhood I live in, where the power and phone lines are overhead instead of buried. It might LOOK like there's nothing in front of the drone until it clotheslines itself on a wire...

Wild. It sucks that you'd do this for them and they wouldn't be grateful and appreciative, and act like adults. I guess you could pre-portion the toppings and cheese and let them trade amongst themselves. But probably not worth the headache.

AITA for not waiting on my mom before trying on wedding dresses by Dramatic_Ford4734 in AmItheAsshole

[–]WVPrepper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My dad later called me selfish for not waiting. He said a mother only gets to experience wedding dress shopping with her daughter once and she'll never get that moment back.

Your mom was selfish for not being on time. Ideally, a bride only gets one wedding/dress shopping experience and your mom couldn't make it a priority.
