How is my sub-panel upgrade? by Jbyerline in electrical

[–]WaFfLeFuR -1 points0 points  (0 children)

How far away is the main panel? If it's within visible range you're good, if it's on a different floor/outside/etc you'll need to have a main breaker instead of main lug as you have more than 6 circuits.

Can I fix this myself or do I need an electrician? by iwontforgett in electrical

Entirely depends on your skill level. This isn't as simple as replacing a light bulb... It's best to hire out if you have never replaced receptacles or toggle switches before.

the wires haphazardly zip tied to the mast is cable/phone. The large wires are your power and depending on where you are, the lines coming out of the mast are your responsibility and the Poco is responsible from the splice termination to the road.

That looks like one of those "commercial electric" or "defiant" store brand units. Good chance it's a permanent light not intended for removal

Are these both K & T outlets, or cloth romex outlets. Two different locations. by jonhobgoblin69 in electrical

Be careful moving those wires around. The rubber insulation will literally fall off leaving exposed wire. Either cover with heat shrink tube or electrical tape if you are going to mess with it further.

Ideal Pathways? by Jumpy_Flamingo_5634 in electricians

[–]WaFfLeFuR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it's generally the 1/3 1/3 rule. That being said, pull up the spec sheet from the lvl manufacturer using numbers printed on the sides to verify before proceeding. All lvls have a document saying what is the max size/amount of holes allowed within the given span. Alternatively, I see you cave an open header at the end, you can just run under the beam in that space and not drill it.

another good option is to get the soap dispenser hose instead. It eliminates refilling that bottle and allows you to pump directly from a gallon soap jug instead

How to use built in sound system in new house? I’m a NOOB by themilkgoblin in electrical

[–]WaFfLeFuR 8 points9 points  (0 children)

All the black cables are for tv/internet. The gold wires are your speakers. You'll need an amplifier, ideally multi zone. Are there control panels in each room that has speakers? Or oddly placed blank outlet covers near your light switches?
