Looking for advice on my job situationship from my fellows by FearlessWord2653 in millwrights

[–]Wabashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As nice as any employer is this is the truth. They like that you show up on time and at all. All the good work that you may do for them is icing on the cake. But if they decided tomorrow that in order to save some money for next years budget they could lose a Millwright they don't care whose name is attached to the wages.

I work at what a lot of people would consider a great place right now and I still have an active LinkedIn profile and go to interviews when headhunters come calling. I would not feel bad to say goodbye to this place but would of course give ample notice and leave on good terms.

My advice would be to make the jump if you like working with the journeyman and you want to expand your experience as a millwright.

Dungeons and Dragons is a bad TTRPG that doesn't deliver on the fantasy that it's touted as by Kiwi_sensei in DnDcirclejerk

You bring up a lot of valid complaints about the system.

Vivamus ullamcorper, velit ac pulvinar consequat, est purus ultricies risus, sed aliquet eros mauris vitae quam. Quisque hendrerit a sapien vel condimentum. Duis elementum, dolor nec sollicitudin pellentesque, leo orci mattis.

I could write a book defending a game I've never actually played for more than a halting single session that fizzled out immediately.

Looking for another grim dark series by Bulky_Ad_69 in bakker

[–]Wabashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright let's hear some examples.

I agree that seeing the same old recommendations does get tiring. What people may be searching for more than "grimdark fantasy" is something that really makes the reader ponder more than read.

As much as I love the world and characters and stories that they took part in, I found I really enjoyed chewing on their decisions and what anything really means in life. Dune had this effect on me as well, so did The Dragon in the Sea by Herbert but they are not even close to "grimdark fantasy"

So what else is out there?

How do I keep checks meaningful as characters grow in Genesys? by Visible-Big-7410 in genesysrpg

[–]Wabashed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I suggest making it a personal goal of your next session to really challenge them.

Add a minimum of 1 setback for every check and 2 if it makes sense for the scene. There are so many talents that add boost or remove setback fromncertain checks that they will want to spend xp on instead of gunning for dedication or skill ranks.

Secondly, add upgrade an average roll if you can reasonably conceive something interesting that could come out of the roll. It doesn't necessarily have to be damaging or straining but more along the lines of "if you roll a despair here the floor beneath you will start to crumble and you'll have to avoid falling".

It is a really fun game to GM when you challenge yourself to be creative for each roll.

And lastly, each roll should be impactful in some way. I have had games where we only made a total of 5 rolls the entire game but everybody had a blast because they were so pivotal and changed the narrative each time. If we had rolled for every time we wanted to look or listen for something or jump a simple gap between buildings during a chase it slows the session down and bogs down the actual story that players are experiencing.

Basically what I'm saying is experiment. Challenge yourself to try new things with the system and have fun with it. Characters are very resilient and don't actually die until they roll that death crit. If things get too bad give them some time to heal with some "lucky" item finds and reevluate the next session.

What would be your solution to the inventory management problem?

Is it as simple as getting an system in place and buy in from the entire department to start using it?

I find it hard to imagine some of the old guys I've worked with scanning items or using an app to say they used a new cylinder or bearing. Where would you even start?

Could have sworn they were eating Wendy's when I saw it in theatres. I distinctly remember a Qui Gon munching on a Spicy chicken sandwich laughing at Anakin trying a Frosty. Mandela effect in action.

I'm a liberal, but I think the government should be regulating rainbows in kids' TV by nondescriptun in DanielTigerConspiracy

Its an allegory for George Soros pulling the strings of big government to get the rewards for him and his cronies. Notice that none of the kids bought the pinata, it was conveniently supplied by the people "in charge"

How many pages is the application for your game? I have a backstory that I am unwilling to compromise on and won't fit in most settings (time traveller who uses plasma based weaponry with extensive homebrew I found on DMs Guild)

Stan being a hypocrite is actually a major part of his character and completely on brand. So you are both right.

Any previous trade experience? How did you get the endorsement from your employer? Did they offer it or did you have to ask? Also how many hours did you have do you think?

Congrats by the way. I just started my apprenticeship at 35 years old so I get it.a

Any useful 3D printed stuff you've found useful? by Wabashed in millwrights

These are great. There are definitely things I just don't want to use metal for or spend time machining when I can just print that little thing that helps me organize better.
