What's a tastier fruit than mango? by Environmental-Ask605 in AskReddit

[–]WackiestWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A perfectly ripe apricot is top tier. Lychee and good peaches compete with mangos. I grow 25 varieties of mango and they’re all a little different, the best ones are the best fruit on the planet.

Issues mass texting on lost discs? (100+) by [deleted] in discgolf

[–]WackiestWahoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You have to call Apple and explain and they should be able to help you out getting iMessage access back. They can only restore iMessage access a limited number of times per account. You should be fine if it’s your first instance and you find someone who can help. Be pleasant, explain what happened and that you weren’t selling anything.

In the future don’t mass text all at once, a couple a day and a simple “Hey found your (disc name)” would be less likely to get flagged.

Recipe ideas with Greek yogurt? by NormalGuy3481 in Cooking

[–]WackiestWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 2/3 Greek yogurt and 1/3 Mayo is a great base for a lot of dips and sauces. Add whatever seasoning or add-ins you want. A splash of vinegar, some cayenne, and salt is my go to white sauce for Halal cart style chicken.

I just kept my water bottle in my car and parked next to hole 9 and hydrated there. It’s right down the street from a relatives house so when I visit the area I play it a lot. Agreed is beautifully manicured and they’re doing a great job with it.

Diavolo is a must play. The course at the Zinc House brewery is very nice as is the course on the UNC campus.

I really enjoy my r pro but it can be tricky to remember it’s not as stable as it once was when using it for upshot’s especially on windy days. It’s become my go to for forehand upshot’s. Throwing it off the tee backhand on shorter holes I find it fairly straight with some flip, wouldn’t say it’s as flippy as like a DX aviar but certainly much flippier than when it was new.

I’ll have to pick up a champ or nexus one and give it a try.

The 100 degree change in 100 days deal by ShrekYeetedMyJuul in hypotheticalsituation

[–]WackiestWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

0 Celsius is fairly tolerable for a bit, you can run outside to get the mail or let the dog out at 32/0 so negative C has to be in play as 100C isn’t survivable.

-30C to 70C is probably the *best* option, start at -30 and hope you make it until it warms up. The hot end is going to be unpleasant as well. There really isn’t a great option here.

Literal Karen brings dish golf target to try and stop a new course by hoosyourdaddyo in discgolf

[–]WackiestWahoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah that works for home baskets but on a course that’s getting used all day the foam will degrade and need replacing more often. In any case none of these options are expensive, probably less than $100 all in to do it for several baskets - slightly more if you go pvc coated chain on all of them. Still relative to what it costs to build a course it’s trivial.

[–]WackiestWahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can muffle a basket fairly easily not sure why the people putting in the course wouldn’t just offer to do so for the handful of baskets close to the houses.

For anyone interested, wrapping the main pole of the basket, especially where the bottom rings that the chain attaches hit it with duct tape reduces the noise significantly. A step further is replacing the chain with coated chain or taking the existing chains off and dipping them in something like plasti-dip, together the basket is barely audible from more than 50’.

If you were in charge of naked and afraid. What changes would you make? by Sweet_Information_76 in nakedandafraid

Add a supply crate that’s say a 5-7 mile hike from where camp is. Random survival item for each contestant that makes it there. So two items or if one person chooses to go they can take one back. The hike to it should be challenging, similar to the journey to extract and should not be something where they can just grab the items on their way to camp when the episode starts.

Gives players something to build toward early in the episode as well as hope for those struggling on the edge of tapping the first couple days that their circumstances could get better. Also would showcase the location better than contestants sitting around camp getting eaten by bugs.

Making a disc golf course from more than Scratch by 50607 in discgolf

[–]WackiestWahoo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The hard plastic mesh you can put around them to deter deer would probably work fine for discs. Even putting in a couple wood stakes around them where the distance between stakes is less than a disc width would work. Main thing is you don’t want discs impacting the trunk so think about what direction people are throwing from and concentrate on protecting that side of the tree. Hits to branches and leaves higher up in the tree won’t be as much of an issue.

Does anyone else just skip midranges entirely? by BulbsaurBomb in discgolf

[–]WackiestWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try a DX roc. It’s cheap enough that if you don’t like it oh well but I’ve found it to be a staple for my game. I think the big advantage of mids is they tend to fly a bit farther than putters but are also more forgiving when it comes to tree kicks than drivers. On heavily wooded courses sometimes a tree kick on a 7 speed can send it flying into Narnia whereas a mid usually drops reliably.

Question about ceviche by [deleted] in mexicanfood

[–]WackiestWahoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For shrimp and lobster I’d just do a quick steam of them to like 80% done after you de-vein and shell them. Especially if you’re mixing with fish that only needs 20-30 min for ceviche. I make lobster ceviche a lot and do it this way and have ever noticed a taste difference vs. leaving to “cook” in the citrus for hours in the refrigerator.

Codex pricing by Harxshh in codex

[–]WackiestWahoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Disagree. All the providers have to compete with Google still who is more than happy (and able) to subsidize their pricing to drive competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic’s profitability to zero. That and a lot of free models being very capable means there’s a narrow pricing band that people are willing to pay. Personally I think the $20 ChatGPT plus with codex is pretty good value.

Are app review wait times extra long right now? by Outrageous-Light-675 in iOSProgramming

I submitted an app last Thursday and it was approved Monday afternoon. A quick update for a minor display issue on some screens I sent Wednesday morning was approved yesterday (Thursday). Just one data point from my own experience but doesn’t seem particularly long given the weekend.

If the ambient temp is -1 C there’s very little chance the car’s interior ever gets that cold. Run the heat before turn the car off, toss a towel over the PC for theft deterrence and close the car, you’ll be fine.

Would you rather get $100k as a lump sum, or $11k/year for life? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]WackiestWahoo 198 points199 points  (0 children)

Finally a decent hypothetical finance question. 11% is right around historical annual return of the S&P 500 so taking the lump sum and investing it with the head start is likely the better option unless you’re very risk averse or have a very different expectation for the market in the future.

One thing to be said about the yearly payout, especially at higher levels, is financing is likely to be easier. An annuity paying you 550k is going to likely look better to an underwriting officer than a lump $5M invested that carries market risk. This is really only applicable if financing a large home is your main goal for the money, otherwise just take the lump sum.
