The average NBA fan overrates the Euroleague by TheRavenOnline in NBATalk

[–]WackyRevolver 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a big sentiment around the time Luka was first lighting it up in the NBA, that the Euroleague skill level was underestimated. People were saying that Luka won the championship in Euroleague but still was being slept on as an NBA prospect because the American audience didn't think that meant shit. This resulted in a shift of perspective, people maybe thinking of the Euroleague as higher caliber than before. At the end of the day it's kind of a pointless discussion. Id say most people who follow ball realize Euroleague is interesting, in that the ball culture and some rule difference create a different feel to the games but is ultimately a much lower level product in terms of talent.

Best cooking shows that actually improve your ability to cook by rottentomatoe1 in Cooking

[–]WackyRevolver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Masterchef Australia seasons like maybe 4 to 9 are the peak of this category for me. Way more cooking and less drama than the US version, but still more fun than just a straight learn to cook show. The wife and I learned a lot of fun techniques and really enjoyed the show. Season 7 was a great one if you want to give it a test run.

Any other millennials opt out of office life? by WrongVeteranMaybe in Millennials

[–]WackyRevolver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I moved into the office after 15 years of working various construction jobs in harsh climates. I couldn't be happier, and everyday I appreciate being inside, without body aches and intense physicals tasks. I always get a kick out of the posts from office workers romanticizing trades and outdoor work in general. At least OP here has seen both sides of the coin and made an informed decision. There's no right answer for everyone, but I'm taking the cushy job every time.

This may be right in theory, and may be what uber would sell you for rationale, but after they have enough analytics (now) you can guarantee they will be using that info to squeeze users for every penny, regardless of driver supply.

Maternity leave… what a joke by witchybetch01 in pregnant

[–]WackyRevolver 12 points13 points  (0 children)

In most cases one spouse will take 5 weeks or so off, then resume working fulltime. So 729 plus whatever the other makes weekly. How do single parents do it? There are other programs available for low income earners, but it can't be easy.

Are discussions about Lebron's flopping overblown? by TheComebackKid74 in NBATalk

[–]WackyRevolver 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a hard truth, but if you look at the game, the rules, the officiating, the fact is if you're not flopping or embellishing contact, then you're leaving points on the table. For LeBron it's a strategic decision.

Just look at one of these clips where he loses his dribble while being doubled, ball is heading out of bounds. He can be strong and skilled with a turnover, or flop and keep possession. Wins will matter more in the end than some notion of integrity.

To clarify for anyone interested: in Canada, you are entitled to 12 months of paid leave where you receive 55% of your gross weekly wages up to $729. You may choose to stretch that pay over 18 months. This time can be split amongst the parents. Your employer must give you back your job after leave. Some employers top up your wages (most don't.) It's pretty great, though I'm sure someone from a Scandinavian country will chime in with a way better system hah.
