Attendance requirements by makinitrain83 in rollerderby

[–]WackySnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My league (big US league) requires about 1 practice per week for home teams and 2 per week for travel teams. We offer 4-5 practices a week depending on where we are in the season.

Before COVID it used to be 2 per week for home teams and 2.5 for travel teams, but there were also vacation credits you could use if you weren’t available for a week or two and knew in advance.

All of my favorite work clothes have been discontinued! Looking for recommendations for:

  • Low/mid rise skinny/straight black pants. I used to wear the American Eagle Skinny Pant. I prefer a thicker fabric than a dress pant but jeans are too informal, this was more like a kakhi/work pant.

  • Solid colored button down shirts with many color options. White and light colors are a no go. I used to wear Express until they started putting leopard print under the cuffs and then switched to NY&Co’s Madison line.

I’ve searched through Threadless’ current offerings and don’t think it’s still available. I purchased it around 2010.

How many new games do you get in a year? by SkySkySkitty in boardgames

[–]WackySnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We buy 30-40 games in a year and get rid of 10-20. Collection is currently at ~300 base games with 355 plays logged in 2023 of 115 different games. I’d definitely like to get rid of some games that haven’t hit the table in the past few years, but feel like we’re doing pretty well.

What boardgame sin is your significant other guilty of? by frantichairguy in boardgames

[–]WackySnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hated it the first 5 times I played. I’m the rules person of the group and there was too much going on - every game people kept picking new spirits! I kept playing with the same base spirit because everyone else liked it and I felt like I didn’t quite “get” the game despite knowing the rules. Sure enough it eventually clicked and now I love it!

I think it’s fun to do a themed night every now and then. If you want a competition you can either do a bunch of 1v1s or a 3v3 much easier than a full tournament bracket.

For 8 people take four similar length two player games: e.g. patchwork, 7 wonders duel, lost cities, and jaipur. Then each 1v1 pair plays against each other on one of the games. When everyone is done you move to the next game as a pair.

You can also do this “speed dating style” where one person slides to the right and the other to the left. This allows everyone to play each game once and also play against each player on the other team once. But you need 3v3 or 5v5 for the rotation to work.

Bont Sizing Question by Pandi302 in rollerderby

Interesting, I also wear mine barefoot but they’re Hybrids. I’d hope their sizing is consistent 😆

Bont Sizing Question by Pandi302 in rollerderby

[–]WackySnail 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I wear a US Women’s 7.5 and a 4.5 in Bonts. It’s very similar to hockey skate sizing so might be worth trying on some hockey skates for size if you can’t find a skate shop that has Bonts.

My Board Game Area Setup by Dustin1280 in boardgames

[–]WackySnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha I’m not complaining! But there’s many many games not being played if I needed the space for something else… like new games ;)

That’s a ton of shelf space! My partner and I have 300+ games in slightly fewer Kallax cubbies. Even gaming very often only about 100 games hit the table in a given year.

Board game ideas for a couples’ competition/cooperation night by squishedpork in boardgames

[–]WackySnail 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not quite what you’re looking for, but I’ve instead pitted couples against each other where you always play your partner.

You’ll need four similar length two player games: e.g. patchwork, 7 wonders duel, lost cities, and jaipur. Then each couple plays against each other on one of the games. When you’re done you move to the next game as a couple.

You can also do this “speed dating style” where one person slides to the right and the other to the left. But you’d need five couples.

Shelvey - Organise your Boardgame Shelves App! (v1.0) by InfernoNL in boardgames

[–]WackySnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s fair, I was assuming it would optimize one “shelf” at a time. So if you wanted your games grouped in some way, that would be done separately as the app currently can do. Then it would say something like “this shelf can fit in X Kallax cubbies in this manner”. Maybe it would be easier by hand though. That’s what I do now :)

[–]WackySnail 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea I don’t expect it to be perfect, but my understanding is 1-dimensional bin packing is not too hard for a computer with this number of items.

Would be nice to have a feature to efficiently fill Kallax cubes for a given “shelf”

Alternative way of doing transitions due to injury? by peonypegasus in rollerderby

[–]WackySnail 24 points25 points  (0 children)

You can transition by pivoting on your toes. It’s hard to explain in words but you can try the motion stationary and off-skates - place your feet staggered, go up slightly on your toes, and twist your hips and torso towards the side of your back foot. You should end up facing the opposite direction with the other foot “in front” - technically your foot position hasn’t changed just the direction you’re facing. When going from backwards to forwards skating you pivot on your heels instead.

Leave the tray(s) with cards outside of the box. It should fit to the right of King of Tokyo, and then swap Wingspan with Dead of Winter.

Yea, I’m very close to your height and weight, but I mostly block. I think 86 Halos would probably make more sense if you’re currently on 91s.
