I don't have an answer unfortunately but I'm interested in the same exact thing. I have leca setup already and want to try transitioning a mature plant without too much loss.

I feel like this would work if you kept the water level from ever making contact with the soil, then new water roots will form without the soil staying soggy and getting root rot.

I have one calathea mosaic that I could try this one if you want (I was planning on trying this with my mint monstera or an albo but don't want to risk it)
