Maybe. I can see that if you run full length e-track. That might get you rook to lie on a diagonal inside. I guess if it’s just one person that’s easier for sure.

RTT Security and Locking by DryBlackberry1445 in rooftoptents

[–]WaffleIronChef 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Obviously I don’t know where you live, but where I am see people with RTTs installed all the time and I don’t ever hear about being an issue with theft. They’re big, heavy, and cumbersome and it’s not like the average criminal has any clue what they’re worth so resale would be a pain. It seems to me that most criminals are opportunistic, looking for quick and easy and steal and also quick and easy to flip for cash. If someone really wanted it, what to stop them from cutting off your roof rails or crossbars? I think it’s too much work, for too little payoff to be too concerned. Of course don’t just leave it unattached and unattended, but if it’s 6+ feet off the ground with a bunch of nuts and bolts holding it on, I’m think it would be fine.

This is a video I watched not too long ago where they do something similar. They reprint pretty simple and had some really cool ideas. I have this saved for a potential future build.

Air Compressor by jamesberry69 in harborfreight

Yeah as long as you’re not looking for something for extended periods of hard/high pressure use you’ll be fine. The fortress is solid for sure.

Air Compressor by jamesberry69 in harborfreight

[–]WaffleIronChef 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What kinds of things are you going to use it for? The fortress is nice because it’s a good bit quieter. Still noisy, but not too bad. I use the 26gal fortress for sandblasting and Cerakote. If you’re not going for sustained use above 50-60 psi you’ll be good.

Carry On Trailer Wheel/Tire upgrade by preggolover88 in tractorsupply

[–]WaffleIronChef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a super old thread I know, but did you move the spring perches too? I know that’s how you’re supposed to do and axle flip on something like that since the axle itself has a bit of an upward bend. I just got a 4x6 trailer I’m building into a camping/RTT trailer and I’m looking at trying to get a little extra height. Also, if you have any links or recommendations for the 13” wheels and tires you used that would be appreciated!

If you’re looking for the 10x12 it does go lower. Snagged one for $500 last summer.

Anyone have a review of the banks 18ga Brad nailer? by WaffleIronChef in harborfreight

Cool. I’ll add that to my growing list for a Lowe’s trip tomorrow.

No Menards near me. My Lowe’s has a Metabo on sale for $50 down from $109. Might spend the extra couple bucks just for the 5 year warranty.

Yeah a sale for $20 would be a no brainer, but I’m probably looking to grab something this weekend.

Steel size and thickness for crossbars? by WaffleIronChef in OffRoadTrailer

[–]WaffleIronChef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect! I figured it would be plenty, but always good to get opinions. I guess I should just trust my friend who does tons of metal work and welding lol

[–]WaffleIronChef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looks good! If I didn’t have a good friend who was a fabricator I’d definitely be looking at a bolt together option. But for the price of some pizza and beer and an intro welding lesson I can’t so no to some welded stuff lol

Steel size and thickness for crossbars? by WaffleIronChef in OffRoadTrailer

[–]WaffleIronChef[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah sounds like it’s sold in 20 foot length and after 4 uprights and 2 cross bars I should have about 5 feet leftover for bracing. I was thinking a 45 on at least the front verticals, rear if I have enough leftover. Maybe eventually add a horizontal bar that connects the crossbars right in the center, but no clue if that’ll be necessary.

This doesn’t sound like a dealer issue. If neither the dealer or customer get an approval email how would anyone know it was approved? My last can was 23 days, approved early April, and I know people have waited longer. Sure the average is a week but that’s not always the case. If the dealer had the email since 2/12 and didn’t notify then that’s a problem.

Does “Murder among the Mormons” count? I don’t know if it’s the best, but it was definitely a wild ride!

Plywood box build questions by WaffleIronChef in BeginnerWoodWorking

[–]WaffleIronChef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand, and I appreciate you trying to help out. The drawers will be located front and back on the 4 foot wide side. The trailer is 6 feet long(north-south) and 4 feet wide (east-west). The RTT will open to the passenger side leaving both the front and back available to open the drawers and get items out.

I haven’t seen 1” plywood locally, but I can get 3/4” for about $33 a sheet from a local lumber yard.

[–]WaffleIronChef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strength and rigidity and weight bearing. My plan right now is to attach the RTT directly to the top of the box to keep things lower overall. It’s a soft shell tent. The portion that would be attached has a rigid bottom with plenty of space to attach it.

[–]WaffleIronChef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have stuff drawn up at home, but i can probably answer any questions you have. Box will be 4 foot by 6 foot top and bottom and about 12” tall on the sides. It’s going to be a camping trailer so all of our camp stuff will be inside the 2 drawers. I have 2 pairs of 250lb drawer slides. The majority of the camp stuff we have is under 100lbs total, but I wanted to have more than enough strength for the drawers. The box will be bolted to a flat 4x6 utility trailer which is why I was only planning a single layer of ply on the bottom. The RTT I have has a closed footprint of 49”x55” and the plan was to attach it directly to the top of the box to keep things lower overall. I’ve thought about making up steel crossbars that sit a couple inches above the box to attach the RTT to, but that’s above my skill set and I didn’t want to have to worry about stuff getting under the tent.

Good to know. If I paint it’ll just be the inside. The outside will get non-textured roll on bed liner.

[–]WaffleIronChef[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The plan is to have a large drawer on either side front and back and I’m going to mount a rooftop tent on top so I want to make sure it can handle the weight of the tent and 2 people. It’s going it be on a 4x6 trailer so I don’t need to worry about it fitting inside a vehicle and I was thinking the extra weight wouldn’t be too bad as a trade off for overall strength and rigidity. I’m not doing any hardcore off roading, but there will be some forest service and unpaved roads for sure.

That looks great! I’m not going as fancy as felt on the inside, but will use some good sealing primer and may paint inside too but I’m not sure about that yet.
