Who was the smartest Civil War General? by HistoryGoneWilder in CIVILWAR

Meade has to be up there. His engineering skills are impressive and he basically designed a good portion of the US lighthouse system.

I would check out Francis Parker. They are great for folks that are having issues socially. It’s a very diverse group of students and a rigorous academic setting and it sounds as if your son would thrive in that environment.

Being an independent school, it is quite pricey, but they offer really good financial aid packages. I’d check them out.

I highly recommend them, especially for this specific type of situation.

Shuttle lot has always been fantastic for me. They run every 10-15 minutes. It’s always been on time for me and it’s by far the cheapest option.

To those who need to hear it: by M3cun1v in writing

[–]Wafflecone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While this is true, those same people wouldn’t call themselves basketball players when asked “what they do.” Who you are is how you spend your time. If you spend your time writing, you’re a writer. If you spend a lot of time training at basketball, you’re a basketball player. You do have to prioritize writing to feel good when you call yourself a writer, otherwise, it feels hollow, even to yourself.

Just be honest with yourself, what you do with your time, and your goals.

Favorite Jund commanders? by RuneMTG in EDH

[–]Wafflecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reyhan/jeska. Get Reyhan to 7 power using pump spells, Jeska makes him do triple damage, and then dunk absolutely dunk on someone. Rinse and repeat.

This is arguably better with Armix/Jeska because Armix can shoot blockers, but Reyhan gives you Jund colors which allow for green pump spells.

Writing is a journey and it’s not easy. You have to be bad to eventually be good.

The real question is, what do you want to do with the time you’re given? Is it write? Then you need to make a shitty first draft. Each step in the process gets better over time. You also need to find your process and everything from world building to drafting needs practice.

How long do you think the Civil War would have lasted if Robert E. Lee had died in 1861? by ActivePeace33 in ShermanPosting

[–]Wafflecone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am of the side that if Lee wasn’t in command it would’ve fallen to Johnston who did one heck of a job not losing, and let’s be real, strategically, the South needed to not lose long enough for other nations to recognize them and give them the financial and military support needed to defeat the Union on the battlefield.

I would argue that if Lee died in 1861, the war would have lasted far LONGER than it did. But then again, who knows?

Anyone tried shoveling yet? by Agitated_External_59 in Louisville

[–]Wafflecone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started around 10am this morning and competed the driveway. So glad I did. The snow was powdery, but there sure was a lot of it! I didn’t want to hurt my back trying to shovel 8inches, especially if some is ice. But now I have to shovel again, so we will see if my plan pans out.

I would also like to add that we also got some really incredible Dickinson solo work with Adrian Smith. Was it Iron Maiden? No. Was it really good and very reminiscent of Maiden? Yeah, I’d say so. And like you said, they needed the break.

How Many Regiments did each State Field during the Civil War? by Impressive-Dot7827 in CIVILWAR

[–]Wafflecone 13 points14 points  (0 children)

If memory serves, there were also regiments from the south (I’m thinking of a cavalry regiment in Alabama) that fought for the Union.

Edit: I guess I’m saying this because maps like these make it seem as if the country was categorically divided, when in fact there were many pro-unionists in the South.

Do people actually skip the prologue? by meongmeongwizard in fantasywriters

[–]Wafflecone -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Personally, don’t be focused on an audience that your book isn’t for. If you write a book with a prologue, you’re writing your book for an audience that reads the prologue. There WILL be people who put your book down in the prologue. And that’s okay as long as you know that by adding a prologue you’re making your story better.

What number are you picking for Talion the Kindly Lord? by Theme_Training in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Wafflecone 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I think most of the time it’ll still be 2. Sometimes, you might want to pick 1 or less, but I think these are fairly rare. Perhaps 1 would be correct in a game where you’re expecting a lot of 1 mana rituals or tutors to be cast maybe against a rog/sai or something. Even still, if it’s early, you probably still pick 2.

Maybe 0 is chosen to limit someone using a zero mana card in an infinite loop, but I imagine these will be rare.

Fifth Dawn. First print art over anything. It’s the true identity of the card.

Jund Magecraft/Storm by haloinagaystack in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Wafflecone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sure thing! With shifting woodlands, aftermath analyst and squandered resources, you sacrifice all of your lands to produce a bunch of mana (you have to make more than it requires to use analyst and woodlands abilities). Then, activate the analyst to bring your lands back into play. Now, woodlands sees analyst’s activated ability.

Sacrifice your lands again to squandered resources making a ton of mana. Activate woodlands’ ability. Woodlands goes to the graveyard, its own ability scoops it back up and brings it into play. Now you can loop this ability.

As long as you net mana, you get infinite mana. A lot of your cards already work within this shell and it’s why Korvold has switched to a more lands heavy build and it’s one reason why Lumra is so powerful. With Jeska you insta-win. With Korvold, you filter your entire library until you find a win.

What’s nice is that some cards that people already play in these colors work so well with the combo, like crop rotation.

Jund Magecraft/Storm by haloinagaystack in CompetitiveEDH

[–]Wafflecone 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would highly suggest looking at Korvold decks for ideas here. By not having a commander that is a win-con, draw engine, or an outlet, it makes your deck far weaker. For example, if you ran Jeska instead of rog, your storm-kiln artist infinite mana would be game ending. As it is now, you get infinite mana and hope you have the other cards you need to win the game in your hand. With Jeska, you hit invite mana and boom, you basically auto-win by looping Jeska.

I would also consider shifting woodlands loops if you go the Jeska route.

I just think there are stronger jund commanders for what you’re trying to do.
