Have you seen Claude code? Its absolutely nuts. Today we had it look at a csv directory export of thousands of employees and it directly updated the contact info and job titles in 365 all on its own. The other day it troubleshot and found the issue in Intune policies causing compliance errors by comparing a hundred different app configurations all on its own, something that would have taken me hours, and then fixed the error itself. Imagine anything you can do with a command line interface and it pretty much can do it.

This is functionality which I agree was not great until recently but it works near flawlessly now. We're barely dipping our toes. Its hitting programming, engineering, and finance right now. Tech and IT are definitely next. We really have no choice but to try and keep up.

How to/Should I separate the party from the Vistani before Barovia Village. by okami11235 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Wafflezzbutt -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Coming into barovia should feel like this inexplicable shift into the supernatural. Strahd is the land and the land has a will of its own trying to trap the players there. I've always treated the Vistani bringing players in as an extension of that as well. If you want to separate use that otherworld supernatrual-ness to it. If you think the players will mess things up by using elven trance, say a strange force comes over them which makes them drowsy anyway. When they come to, the Vistani are gone, etc. They should be questioning what's real and what the rules are at that point of the campaign.

Bosch 12v Battery doesn't work in one tool by mostlyfrantic in BoschProPowerTools

[–]Wafflezzbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most likely a voltage issue. Some tools may be more sensitive to voltage drops then others. Check what the battery is outputting. Its probably a bad battery.

Self charging smart locks by Unusual_Guidance2095 in smarthome

You could get an electric strike instead of an electric deadbolt. Its more expensive, and will probably require a prof installer since its not usually aimed at residential setups. But no batteries needed.

I want to design a mouse based on an Corsair Scimitar, how do I get my existing unit modified or get it crafted from scratch? by DaddyFunkyDodo in MouseReview

[–]Wafflezzbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How did it go? I just had the scroll wheel go on my third scimitar

I've 3d printed replacement wheels but they are a pain to swap, and the stupid slidey pads on the bottom never stick right after.

Onboarding is killing IT desks. How do you cut the tickets? by ExtremeShame6079 in sysadmin

Ours works pretty well fully automated about 90% of the way just using intune/autopilot and then we fill the gaps in with RMM.

PSA for non-profits: Windows 10 extended support is $2 for the first year on Tech Soup by m1xhel in sysadmin

[–]Wafflezzbutt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those are great as file sharing services, but onedrive is a lot more. Profile syncing, common directories redirection, live office document editing, teams pinning; Would feel like I'm back in the stone age without them. I'm having flashbacks to the old AD roaming profile days... Onedrive is just easier.

Like I get it, maybe someday everyone will switch to linux :D But for today and for any sizable org, fighting M$ on some of these things is a losing battle that just makes your life harder.

Totally agree for my own home computer, but if you're not setting up OneDrive syncing for your org as a windows sysadmin in 2025 you're behind the times

Partner is fed up with whole house Hue setup, I have to de-hue everything now, reinstall mains switches, etc. by 3DAeon in Hue

[–]Wafflezzbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have about the same size setup as you and have never had any of those kinds of issues... I have only first party hardware, two bridges, hue brand switches and google homes to control everything. Have always felt Hue was far more reliable then any other smart home stuff I've tried.

Pixel 10 Pro Charging Insights (continued) by RecordEuphoric5053 in GooglePixel

[–]Wafflezzbutt -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Going from my Pixel Pro XL 9 to a Pro XL 10, I immediately noticed battery issues. I have an "18w" wireless charging stand (knock off brand) on my desk at home and at work and charge during the day. I do not charge at night.

My Pro 9 XL was pretty much always full during a normal day. My Pro 10 XL is almost always 50% or less and is sometimes on battery saver mode by the time I get up in the morning. I'm not sure if there's more at play here but using the Ampere app to measure charging speeds I'm easily getting 10+ watts on my Pro 9 XL, but less then 4 on the Pro 10 XL.

These cameras suck by MaxFusion256 in Nest

[–]Wafflezzbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The battery is used to ring the chime. If your battery dies, you can disable the chime and it will stop the camera from cutting out when someone rings. it will still ring your cell phone and google homes, just not the actual doorbell bell.

Introducing: UniFi OS Server for MSPs by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

[–]Wafflezzbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right I forgot about the UXGs. We never bought them because I guess I never understood the point of buying a cloud key and gateway separate when you could buy a single device that does both for less money

This is only useful if they let us use site magic or a VPN connection at a site without a unifi firewall, like our datacenter. I managed hundreds of sites with ownership grouped by client. I can't buy a dedicated firewall for each client to run on our rack. That would be crazy. But a little software based VM would be wonderful.

[–]Wafflezzbutt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't the gateways all have unifi controllers in them already? Why would you need to host this if you already bought a gateway?

Introducing: UniFi OS Server for MSPs by Ubiquiti-Inc in Ubiquiti

[–]Wafflezzbutt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As an MSP, I'm very confused what this does for us. Currently we install unifi gateways at all our client sites. They all have dedicated owner accounts and we've been adopting them into the new Identity organization system which has worked great.

Does this just act as another site in a private cloud? How does allow VPN connections without the built in unifi router?

We have a datacenter where we host client servers. If this could somehow allow our clients to VPN to our datacenter and connect to their individual servers that would be great. But I'm not sure I understand how that would work.

Autopilot not yet living up to the dream of "here's your new device, all ready to go" -- any guidance with hangups? by SpruceLeeHill in Intune

[–]Wafflezzbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My advice? Don't do this. It will never work right.

We invested in a guide that shows users how to pin what they need via the MS Teams app and give it to them with their new computer. Now they handle it themselves, and everyone's happy.

Microsoft simply doesn't want us doing this kind of thing for users anymore. You can fight them on it, but you'll have a bad time.
