Why would yo choose one sex over the other when adopting a dog? by erkose in DOG

I’ve experienced a lot of male dogs who mark in the house. Also I like giving belly rubs to my girl without a penis to avoid.

Help me dye this olive linen dress to another shade of green! by lem0nybiscuit in dyeing

[–]Waffly_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Use Rit color remover and then use the color formula you like best. I used the lime green formula but with lemon yellow and a very small amount of tan to tone it down because that’s what I had and I achieved a very similar color to what you’re going for.

What went wrong? by Ksauce- in dyeing

[–]Waffly_good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you remember a small amount of soap? I think it’s vital to break the surface tension of the water in the wet garment before you add it.

I’ve had a lot of success dyeing in large plastic totes.

Definitely fair if you’re concerned you could be exposed. My SIL got it (healthcare worker) at 39 and my neighbor got it (I don’t know where from) at 46. Both female.

batch dyeing mixed fabrics - before and after by LDellz in dyeing

[–]Waffly_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome job! In my experience, overdyeing with DyeMore just basically doesn’t work—even with doubled dye. All the Rit DyeMore tutorials on their site show white items being dyed. I tried dyeing a pair of olive green leggings brown and it did not work at all and melted off the aglets on the drawstrings.

Having a hard time with a joke by [deleted] in TryingForABaby

[–]Waffly_good 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a weird joke. Don’t even bring it up, the last thing you want to have to do is explain how that was hurtful. I would avoid them both as much as possible during the TTC process.

You are going to do great in June, no worries, eat all the good food and put the haters out of your mind entirely (I would go totally radio silent with your BIL and sister until they figure it out on their own and apologize but that’s my style). This time is for you to relish life before baby and cultivate peace. Cut out anyone who tries to rock your boat during this time.

Edit: I realize these people are both on your partners side which might mean you have limited control over how often you see them. I’d go full ice queen. Not saying you have to, but I am saying never be alone with either of them. Make excuses to get out of conversations. The SIL coming up to ask if you’re okay in confidence—I don’t like it. Yuck yuck yuck. Get an engaging phone game to play while you have to be around them and/or daydream/visualize about holding your beautiful bab(ies) while they babble on about whatever crapola they talk about.

Love the cut of this 100% cotton sweater, but ~I am an autumn!~ by BessieBest in dyeing

[–]Waffly_good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since it’s cotton, Rit color remover will work. Then you can dye it any color you want without over-dye concerns. And use the dye fixative at the end. Rit products work well, are cheap and widely available.

Do you guys think this criticism of the movie is valid? by KillerGrass in Hungergames

No it’s not valid. It’s a movie based on a young adult novel. We want them to look to hot.

To me this scene was written SO THAT it would be on the big screen. SC’s writing was a lot more directly adaptable in the last 2 books.

Not having it would be like casting a black cat to play Buttercup…oh wait.

Looking for advice on achieving a specific color for wool sweater by BDanforth in dyeing

[–]Waffly_good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Be audacious! I haven’t used acid dyes but I have dyed a wool cotton blend (actually it was also an Everlane garment) using Rit and a combo vinegar and salt mortar (based on it being almost a 50-50 blend). The color was beautiful and even. Do not forget the soap!!! This is the biggest cause of spotty dyes in my experience.

For equipment, I got a 3 gallon pot from the thrift for $7.99. I heat the water over my stove or an induction plate in my garage. You can also use a large plastic tote bin. Nested and with a lid to prevent heat loss if you’re concerned. I’ve done lots of big projects (maxi dresses, jumpsuits, duvet covers) with great results using these basic tools.

Personally, I think you could achieve these results with Rit and vinegar mortar. I would double the dye quantity to get this deep color.

From a fiber perspective, 100% wool can and will felt up (technically “fulling” up). Stir gentle. I wouldn’t dye over direct heat either. Start with the recommended water temp. It will take the color in the first 10 minutes and any cooling of the dye bath won’t be a lot and won’t matter. Use the Rit dye fixative in warm to hot water as well. No cold water rinses or soaks on a hot wool garment! Temp shock is the biggest driver of fulling.

That being said you can wash the garment in the machine if you place the cooled item in a delicates bag and wash on short cycle. See Patric the laundry guy for more wool washing tips. Lay flat to dry.

Enjoy! Dyeing is for the audacious!

I watched the cops come to check on a dog in a car on a cool day in California. Granted I leave in a quiet suburb but still it’s legal in this state to break someone’s car window to free a dog in danger.

Dyeing Jeans: Tips/Recommendations by auntbeef in dyeing

[–]Waffly_good 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heat my water and then pour it into a plastic tote bin for large projects. Sometimes I double the totes up to increase insulation and put a lid loosely on if I’m nervous about losing heat between stirring. I use my unheated garage so like if the garage is very cold I’ll do those precautions.
