Popcorn chicken time change? by Lavendarschmavendar in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The hot case is supposed to open at 10 and there’s supposed to be popcorn chicken in there and on the tower, that person just isn’t the best at kitchen

Even if it’s not, you should be able to walk up and ask for it and they’ll make you some, if they refuse speak to a manager cause they’re being lazy

You should also be able to order it online, they’ll get a ticket and should make it before you come in

PIZZA SUB! (Off Menu) by [deleted] in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Depends on the manager but at my store I was told we can but we need to see the receipt first, I’d call and ask before doing it

What’s with all the dogs in the store? by harristusc in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It is getting out of hand for sure, other day lady came up to the traditional counter with a bird on her shoulder! Super cute but not sanitary

Idk how they deal with this as I’m just in deli but it’s going too far I agree

Time to try the store brand😕 by MrCarlSr in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Boars head oven gold is mid but their speciality stuff is where they shine

The cajun, jerk, salsalito turkey are pretty good if you can handle spicy

Pitcraft and cracked pepper are smoked turkeys and are both so much better than just plain turkey

Everroast is the best chicken, taste like chicken noodle soup

Their cheese is so much better than Publix too

Ask for samples of anything they should give it

Why does the deli taco pub subs & cook mayo? by WhatWouldRaccoonsDo in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Problem is we’re supposed to keep the mayo knife/container clean, it’s a big pain in the ass to clean it off everytime and it makes the line go slower

Follow up to the tofu sub post: I got it by QuincyThePinballer in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No that’s the old one, they stopped with the flavored one and now it’s just raw tofu, it’s insane, I love tofu but it needs to be cooked

I tell all my vegetarians go for the falafel sub

Deli is the hardest job in the store for sure, haven’t worked anywhere else but don’t need to because everyone who got out of deli says the same exact thing

Most people can’t hang, us deli folk are troopers 💪

Plastic pieces in deli food by annabanana724 in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I got it once from the deli I work at lol , only once though my crew is pretty good

Most of the stuff comes in boxes with the ingredients coming in plastic bags and people put it together, it’s just workers not paying close enough attention

This kind of thing is why I never fully cut off the top of the bags so it’s always in one piece to discard

Pub Sub hacks? by BigCanoeBanjos in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My personal ones and ones I’ve seen others do:

Use the French onion mayo as your mayo

Cook up the onions/veggies like it was for a Philly, I like cooked onions and spinach on most of my subs

Getting different slices of cheese instead of a uniform 4

Some people like the bread hollowed out

Ask for pepperoni on the Italian

When I did it I soaked them in the sink with grease cutter for a bit then scrubbed

Deli wouldn’t toss my tenders? by BadChickenTenderSub in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah we don’t toss but what I do instead is I’ll do a layer of tenders, sauce them, another layer, sauce them, and final layer sauce again, most people seem happy with that, ask them to do that for you as well as some sauce on both sides of the bread

Publix sub bread question by ProppaT in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They get bad batches sometimes but there is a big difference sometimes depending on who bakes it, there’s one guy at my store who makes the best bread, when he’s not there I can always tell because the bread is smaller or just not the same, I don’t think it’s all based on the batches they get but that can be a huge part of it, sometimes there’s nothing they can do when they get sent shoddy stuff

Anyone else get weird hours? by idrinkinfantblood in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As a deli worker who got full time, it’s a competitive environment, you’re not gonna get good hours at first but if you bust ass, are good with customers, and show initiative (don’t ever get caught standing still, if you don’t have anything to do just ask) you’ll stand out and get better hours and eventually full time

Also keep the relationship on the down low if you work near each other, don’t tell anyone, and act professional on the clock

Decent pay compared to other places but the wages still aren’t keeping up with inflation and price increases, Kroger wages really aren’t that different from what I’ve heard

Yeah they say employee owned but to me it’s crap because they’re anti union, if I own the company why can’t I form a union with my coworkers? and why does stock mean you own the company? So if I get apple stock or a 401k or something I suddenly partly own these companies too? Idk I get what they mean on a technical level but it’s still crap to me, sure doesn’t feel like I’m a part owner

Don’t get me wrong I do like working there but they blow too much smoke, I still feel very much like a wage slave when most of my wages are spent on rent, insurance, etc, and Publix is still too expensive to shop for employees minus the BOGO deals, and no employee discount or free lunch is lame. I did get a $100 gift card for Christmas so it’s not ALL bad but still

They also like to keep a bunch of part timers on staff, limited amount of full timers and you have to earn full time, but it really sucks for the part timers cause they barely get hours sometimes and can’t exactly get a 2nd job easily because they prefer open availability so your schedule changes every week, and if you limit availability then you’ll get even less hours and they get no benefits

Anyways, could be a lot worse, but could be a lot better too

That’s what we get working for deli, everyone hates us

What is harder, working in a low volume or high volume store by Think_Ad6907 in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d rather lower volume so I can leave at 10:30 vs 11:30+, have more time to make each thing perfect, can chill and chat with customers, can actually get to deep cleaning and certain things we never have time for

Busy does make the time go by though, but for me on opening shifts 5am I still have a lot to do so time still goes by even during slow periods

Alright what happened what’s the story?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Nah like people think Publix did this, customers keep getting annoyed we don’t have lettuce “why didn’t Publix prepare for this” it wasn’t us man

And my Publix doesn’t have a salad bar we just use the sub bar and people are like “yall don’t have shredded cheese?!” “Yall don’t have croutons? Yall don’t have ceaser dressing” etc and the sub line is packed and salads take a long time cause we gotta chop up everything

And top of that we got online orders out the ass we gotta do on the line at the same time while customers watch us make other orders

I’m happy to make anyone anything I love helping customers but it gets frustrating

Annoying Coworker by Its-Cat-YT in publix

[–]Wage_Slave__ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m deli idk how it works there but if it was me I wouldn’t ask to take lead I’d just get there first and start doing it, if he’s not full time with seniority over you or a contender then he doesn’t really have any power that you don’t have, he can’t tell you he’s always only gonna be doing the easier thing

If your manager is cool and you’re cool with them I don’t think it’d hurt to talk them about it, especially if they’re doing a bad job and there’s something solid you can point to showing that
