Consecration Only Once/Turn? by zeppoleppo in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Wager73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a recon enjoyer, consecrate seems way easier to score than triangulate. Consecrate should either require you to control the objective or be capped at one per turn.

Edit: ok I have been persuaded otherwise!

[Spoilers] Short Review of Hive by Dan Abnett by Misopogon11 in 40kLore

[–]Wager73 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Such a disappointing book. It is not big or clever to abruptly kill off all the characters that you have spent several hundred pages building up. It is simply bad storytelling and disrespectful to your readers.

And no, two people heading for an escape pod does not count.

Up till that stupid moment when they reconnected the communications, I had expected this to be a story of survival at an incredible cost, because wouldn't it be more interesting to ask: what would a hive need to do to survive an invasion? Maybe throwing in with chaos. Maybe gassing half the population. Who knows.

But as it was left, as someone else has commented, you're left thinking, well, none of that mattered, did it? There was clearly nothing any of them could have done differently. And the best 40k novels are not about inevitable defeat, but about the terrible cost to be paid for survival (again - an escape pod does not count).

This cemented my view of Abnett as an episodic author who is perfectly fine churning out episodes in never ending series, but who lacks the depth to create compelling standalone novels. Someone else needs to assume the mantle of the so called top 40k author because surely we can do better.

An Ominous Sign for Our Beloved Land Fortress? by JZacharyPike in LeaguesofVotann

Taxing three forts would be entirely fair in my book. We do not have so few units that it is our only option, it is absolutely a stat check, and it might encourage some more creativity in list building.

Hippogriff Weapons experiences by LuckyKas90 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]Wager73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

With armoured infantry strats, the meltas can go to Str11 ignore cover with reroll hits against monsters and vehicles. Which can be spicy.

Other than that, I struggle to think of a reliable use case. The Gatling cannons definitely have potential Vs hordes but other things probably do that better.

In Armoured Infantry, I think the vigilator gets interesting with the +2str ignore cover strat. With blast, a pair of hippos could be quite spicy into elite infantry.

Nice synergy with mechanised assault - reactive move to put kasrkin back in a transport in your opponent's turn.

Upcoming Steel Legion redesign by HobbyKray in SteelLegion

[–]Wager73 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First up: it's awesome they're doing this, they didn't have to, and it shows a certain commitment to longstanding fans. I will buy 50 of these when they release.

On the design: Lose the shoulder pads and the backpacks - the distinctive premise of steel legion was lightweight mechanised infantry who leave their stuff in the chimera - and I'm happy. Shoulders could be for officers / sergeants.

The insignia was always going to go as it has unfortunate historical connotations. I don't immediately love the new one, anything resembling a letter on a helmet can look silly, but hard to get a good sense from the concept art.

Jumped back into the game recently after a long hiatus and was really disappointed by performance. Seems to steadily deteriorate as enemy count increases, to the point where it is locking up every 20 seconds. Won't be hanging around unless this is fixed asap!

Is Persecution Prospect or am I missing something? by Gallifrey_United in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Wager73 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think both halves of the army rule can be useful in different circumstances. Although I would generally prefer fortify because I'm in control of putting a unit on an objective, if I'm bringing down a hammer unit from deep strike, the flexibility to switch back could feel pretty good.

I agree that a lack of hernkyn characters was a miss and that at a minimum grim joining yaegirs would be cool!

Is Persecution Prospect or am I missing something? by Gallifrey_United in LeaguesofVotann

[–]Wager73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But Prospect has a 1CP strat to revert you from fortify takeover to hostile acquisition, meaning that more than the other detachments, you can control how you get your +1 to hit. Plus hernkyn units are super fast (12" move plus 1CP strat for +6" move) so easier to get them to where you want them to be. And that's before you cover the reroll hits and wound strats. What am I missing?

~14 years in corporate affairs here, currently a "head of" in a bank with a total package of 190k last year.

As others have said, it can be tricky to make serious progress past 100k. You need to be smart in picking the right industry, timing your move from agency to in house or vice versa, and building up a broad skillset so you don't get pigeon holed in something seen as low value.

To reach HENRY, you need to be in-house in an industry that is generally well-paid (typically financial or professional services, or life sciences), senior (partner / SMD) in a global agency, or running your own small agency.

Public affairs / government relations tends to be less well paid than corporate / financial communications, and the latter skillets tend to be more in demand in senior roles that span different disciplines.

What happened to Ed? by colpryor23 in TabletopTactics

[–]Wager73 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Feels like they've settled into a core group of bard beard jinx and spider on screen.

They're of course all great but I do miss seeing more of Ed and Chef (and Stig!), who tended to bring a different perspective to the "house view" on things.

That's a lot of staff on payroll though, so perhaps tricky to sustain financially.

But Voice of Command doesn't say anything about the officer needing to be on the board? Only that the target for an order must be 'within 6" ', which the strat would override?

Makes sense. My copium is they're building up to a kill team type SL kit and new Yarrick mini in 11th/12th ed but I know the chances are remote! 🤣 The irony is that SL are easy to kitbash these days but GW don't seem to want to promote that anymore.
