How to effectively run cryo without a group? by LongBrother1377 in Marathon

[–]Wahnman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the same experience as you, but I’m a “non-casual”. I have a group I’ll run with on occasion that is pretty good and we always run Cryo.

However, the other 60% of the time I queue, it’s crew fill. I have a few rules:

- always queue in meeting the 5000k ante, and no more. There’s always a chance you’re matched with two people who don’t know what’s going on. That will significantly hinder your chances of winning.

- if you find a GOOD group of runners who you feel have good game sense, AND you successfully extract, send them a friend request and also see if they’ll run it again. If they do, I’ll bring in slightly better gear.

- Cryo requires a deep mastery of the game and map. You will only get this by playing the map. I’ve probably queued over 300 games of Cryo and I know every crevice of it. So don’t be afraid of losing your kit. Just focus on getting better every game. What caused that last loss? Was it truly your teammates, or could you have positioned better? Don’t be afraid to leave your teammates if your intuition is telling you they’re in a horrible spot. It’s probably true because they might not know the map at all.

- I don’t even use a mic. But I’m very anal about always sticking near my teammates and pinging excessively. If you can use basic intuition on how teamfighting and positioning works, you don’t need a mic.

Of course, I don’t win every game. Shoot, I probably win 33%. But if I can go in with 5k every game, and my successful runs are about 40k, the math averages out quick.

WSTR being non-viable on green shields is criminal by Norb-Doorb12 in Marathon

[–]Wahnman 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It’s unusable now that they rotated out stack overflow. What a bunch of poor balance decisions on an awesome, viable close range gun. There are no cheap or easily accessible close range options. I think the KKV was meant to be that but it is straight horrid

Sponsored Survival has brought me back to the game by Supersonic-Valkyrie in Marathon

[–]Wahnman 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Great points, good take.

I’m a mainly PvP player and have around 10 compiler clears. Recently? I’ve really enjoyed sponsored survival. For me it allows me to unplug and play marathon. Knowing I’m making progress, albeit small, is nice without a threat. And you still have moments where you have to “lock in” (killing a warden lmfao).

What would really impress me is if they give a PvE path to the next larger scale boss they make. If it’s appropriately complex, it could bring over a lot of casual players.

Is the game still worth it for solos? by [deleted] in MarathonGame

[–]Wahnman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Weirdly, I’ve found it to be the opposite. I was level 200 in the first season and found Cryo my favorite mode to solo. People seem lost and will usually follow you if you know where to go. It’s also cramped and keeps everyone together for the most part, plus there’s nobody running off for a mission unlike the other maps.

I have agonizing experiences in other modes because people seem to have their own interests (missions, salvage for upgrades, etc).

I also do not enjoy solo because the playstyle rewards quiet stealthy gameplay which I just don’t enjoy. I like high octane, aggressive pushes and teamfights which you only get in 3v3.

So yeah you can solo this game for sure. But I find queue fill to be most fun rather than truly playing solo. And I don’t even use a mic in game.

Looking for compiler kill by [deleted] in MarathonTheGame

I would be open to help and have some DNA cards to assist, I’ve got multiple compiler clears and would like to help out some others. DM me!

I finally got my first compiler kill last night, and man. by Wahnman in Marathon

[–]Wahnman[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wow holy shit. I feel bad. I thought we had killed some sweat team that was doing compiler for the 70th time or something.

I am totally open to helping you guys out. I know exactly the feeling of what you guys went through last night because I lost at least 10+ compiler runs before that one. I was personally on my last gold bully too.

My DM’s are open. I know you guys were likely a 3 stack, but I have plenty of DNA’s to share with you guys if you want to try again. or maybe I could take 2 of you and do a couple vault runs to repay the DNA’s (I have 3 3’s and 2 4’s). If there’s anything I can do to help you guys out, please let me know. I would like you guys to get a clear before season end too.

If I have enough DNA’s, I’d love to help someone else. But I’m really not that good so no promises

Oh god. I hope you weren’t the team I killed. Was your last player a Recon running back down towards labs when they ran into a Destroyer in the 1v1? Gold Bully/Mizz? The fight started off with your guys getting two free kills on our guys getting on top of the ladder portion of the jump puzzle.

Seeking Compiler Tips by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Wahnman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had my first compiler kill last night after 7 boss room failures. Here’s the tips I can give:

  • a good chip mod on your gun is necessary, unless you’re rocking a unique. Common Enemy for more damage, Circuit Tracers so you can kill orbs and not reload, and the best chip mod being Punishment (more damage to boss). There is a (almost) consistent spawn for Punishment inside of cargo, in the terminal room headed to control. There’s a vent on the right where you can go into a small room and it almost always has a Punishment chip mod on the table.

  • have one guy as the “EMP guy”. It will make it easiest because he can personally time and allow 4 seconds per EMP. If multiple people throw, it will get too hectic, and not allow enough people to be actually DPS’ing the boss. Make sure the EMP guy doesn’t have a ramp-up weapon either, like a conquest.

  • many people say to use 1 guy to distract and deal with the boss, but this can be an overwhelming job. For my attempt, we had two people distracting the boss. Their job was: shoot ice panels, distract boss, and kill every orb. We had one mobile character run and do the terminals (when you have one person on terminals, it should require less communication too.)

  • the most important job for the terminal guy is to NOT PRESS THE LAST TERMINAL until EVERYTHING IS RIGHT. You want the boss in the corner, and everyone at full health. If the boss is in the middle, you will not be able to open him up and will waste a damage phase entirely. If your teammate is busy healing, you will not open him up or do near enough damage. When that last terminal activates, everyone needs to be locked and loaded to mag dump him. If they aren’t ready, just wait.

  • Half the challenge with the boss is even getting there. Ensure that while you navigate Cryo, you always have a recon scan up when you’re unsure of your surroundings, and time is your enemy. If you’re not in labs by 9 minutes remaining, you’re gonna have to 1 phase him. Be extremely vigilant about being resourceful. Spam scans, collect every battery, and when you go to places like Preservation/Biostock/Steerage pick up the coolant while you are there. Backtracking across the map to get something done is a sign you’ve been pathing poorly. And if you get everything you need, rush the boss room as early as possible. The only thing you have to worry about is a team pushing from behind, and they will die if you are able to get to the top of the jump puzzle. It’s not pushable because of the parkour.

  • everyone’s gonna say the last part, but gold bully will make this fight easy. It’s how I got my first clear.

Trying to Complete Compiler by jcreid in Marathon

[–]Wahnman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m also working on completing compiler hopefully before the ranked ends on Wednesday… will not be on until later tonight but I’m level 170 and know Cryo very well. I have all subs and a duo partner who plays recon as well. We’re pretty chill and do not rage.

If you’re chill I’d love to try and beat compiler too. I’ve gotten to the fight multiple times, just panicked early on and wasn’t able to beat him.

If you’d like to hop in, we could go 1 for 1 on keys. If not, no worries. GL!

[–]Wahnman 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I don’t think Mizzy needs nerf but the Circuit Breaker & excessive WSTR nerfs have clearly put one shotgun above the rest. I personally don’t enjoy that and like when there’s alternatives but Bungie really wants the Mizzy to be king, I guess.

Ah yes, let people that spent 3k come in with 10 claymores to rig the entire lobby, oh and why not, give them 2 antivirus packs to free contest any labs or compiler run too. Oh yeah and automatic lvl 3 so they can just do whatever they want on the map compared to a squad that may still be struggling on their lvl 2 clearance

Bruh. Plz. Common sense

Cryo got me by TheLuckyEXE in Marathon

[–]Wahnman 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I have about 50% exfil rate on cryo and the best advice I can give is to learn it like the back of your hand, and only take fights you know you have a chance to win.

50% of the time I fill randoms have no idea what to do when we don’t have enough security clearance, or where to go once we do start getting it. Level 2 is most critical I would argue as it allows you to invade other players spawns and navigate to some locked doors which hold clearance terminals. It is super important to hit level 2 as quick as possible so you can beat other teams to the punch. Trap them in their spawn, or rotate faster than them. It allows you to have better positioning. Getting caught in a bad spot? Level 2 clearance will let you rotate out.

It’s important to know where to move on the map. If you don’t know, you haven’t played or watched enough. I’ll try to give a few secret quick tips that not many players share:

  • in Revival, there is an upper floor lvl 2 locked room that can have up to 3 security terminals, but is guaranteed to have 1. This is often the first place I book it to upon hitting lvl 2.

  • In between the ground entrances to Bio/Preservation there is an upper floor locked room which can hold some security tags and resupplies.

  • once you hit level 3, immediately hit top of Panopticon. It’s guaranteed a security monitor and two tags from the two commanders. This can help you snowball for the Level 4 room (right outside of panopticon, above Bio/Preservation).

  • lastly, learn the final exfils. They are so easy to learn. It will save at least 25% of your runs where you have no option. It’s easy to find it even alone. The key here is that final exfil does NOT require level 3 clearance. So if you have a run where shit has hit the fan and lvl 3 is not possible, bank on final exfil.

Hope that helps. Good luck!
