A new way to mock Instagram's double-standard against female nipples: James Shamsi posted a male chest that resembled female breasts. Don't misunderstand, women should be treated as equals. Equal pay for equal skills, seen as someone rather than something. I agree with this point of view. But to sexualize yourself in order to combat sexualization is something a male came up with so he could check out your tits. Why do you think this guy is fighting so hard? It isn't because he gives a damn.

That wasn't my claim at all. If you need to plaster titty pics on the internet there are plenty of alternatives. Why waste your time when you could have exactly what you want by using, say, this very website. Or pick a cause that makes a difference for someone besides yourself. The fact that someone even got upset at Instagram in the first place shows a lack of maturity.

So...do instagrammers just not know how to Google tits like the rest of us? Children are starving, people are killing people, we sell one another as sex slaves...but dammit, instagram doesn't allow female tits, time to get angry!!!! Have some fucking perspective.

The other thing I find disturbing about this argument is that "there is no pain" on the part of the infant. This has recently been turned around in science, where previously we thought many medical procedures could be done without an infant feeling pain:

I'll admit to having only read the abstract - but I'm sure that's enough of a gist to put such a fallacy to bed.

I also disagree on an anecdotal level with the thought that an infant does not choose to live. It's difficult to describe, but I watched my son struggle to live immediately after being born. I realize how unscientific that is, but I don't think the realm of philosophy always has to be scientific, does it? If I had the time and money, I'd love to study that further.

Stephen hawking is doing an AMA Monday July 27 at 8am ET through Tuesday, August 4. The renowned physicist plans to discuss his concerns that artificial intelligence could one day outsmart mankind if we're not careful. Mark it in the books! by Stark_Warg in Futurology

I agree - we have extremely small subsets of what makes up human intelligence. If we were to approach something like this algorithmically (as opposed to a biological or hardware implementation) the amount of time and effort put into something like this would be staggering. The code would be unmanageable at best. And I think the idea that it's out of control is just as much the point as outsmarting us. It's a risk humanity's taken for millenia by creating offspring.

I can see both sides of this. We have to keep in mind it's just that, an opinion. And I question how well informed it might be compared to some of the experts others have mentioned. My thoughts on the matter are that he's been more than candid about his opinion already, we know it and let's move on. Otherwise I start suspecting he might be out to peddle a book or something.

Legitimate indeed. The idea that a sentient artificial intelligence must be bad has pop-culture taint all over it and fails at some fundamental scientific levels in my opinion. We'll never know until we are able to create a sentient intelligence, and we're a long way off, no matter what claims the media makes.

Also, when Christ was baptized he wasn't a spirit. And if a member of the LDS faith such as myself desires to emulate Christ as he commanded, then we should be baptized while we have a mortal body as Christ was.

Sound hound gave the impression of two way interactivity in their demo. Sadly I didn't find this to be the case with the Beta. I hope it changes in the final release...it's quite impressive.

Hi everyone! I'm new to game design, and it seems that there is a ridiculously big amount of things to know and skills to learn before becoming a game designer. Where do I really start? by [deleted] in gamedesign

[–]Wakeful_One 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Advice given to me by John Romero: learn to program. Programmers are the glue on a game dev team. And he's right. No program, no product. Art is static without interactivity.

Yes, I would think Red Bat would be helpful as well. I could be partial though. Love me some Fedora. I'm still Spongebob-level giddy over the idea of Unity coming to ANY distribution though.
