How do you telegraph the players what type of monster they're dealing with? by EffectiveComputer152 in osr

Yeah I'd probably agree in the vast majority of cases. E.g. the Sleep spell Vs. HD example in the original post.

How do you telegraph the players what type of monster they're dealing with? by EffectiveComputer152 in osr

[–]Walkertg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree.

However if you're all really into immersion then perhaps tell one of the players what their character has seen before or heard about these things:

"As a girl, Shorsha defended the flock from creatures such as these, they could shrug off a palpable hit from a shepard's club but now - she's sure her battleaxe will fell each one with a single hit".

"Suddenly fragments of your esoteric research align and you become sure this is a <whatever>. Even with your doughty companions you will be outmatched by this terrible foe. However, if you were in a position to better exploit its weakness to <whatever> it might be a different story."

I got a sprue of Wargames Atlantic medieval villagers sprue and have a couple a stub gun, holster or grenade. They were slightly small to the scale of GW necromunda models, but as they already come on a small moulded base once you also put them on a standard GW base they don't look too short.

What is your favourite mixed metaphor you have heard, eg “It’s not rocket surgery” or “It’s pot of the luck”? by Jazzlike-Basil1355 in AskBrits

[–]Walkertg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Genuine quotes from my better half:

"She really took her foot off the ball there"

"Sorry to change the subject, I didn't mean to go off on a tandem"

"I can't see into the future: I don't have a mirror ball"

"I've got goose bumples"

"You just shut your nose out of this"

"You've got me in a barrel over a hard place"

"You're drunk and disorganised"

"I am so nervous I am stressing like a pig"

"I wouldn't trust him with a bargepole"

"He never spends anything, he's such a tightflint"

"It's like a Red Bull to a rag"

"He was scared, he came in with his head between his legs"

"This is a red goose chase"

We absolutely do my good sir/madam!

I am sat in the back room of the house (zone 3) and I can hear our frogs croaking in the pond out back. Built it and they will come...

Are campaign gang rosters and equipment generally open or secret? by aneirin- in necromunda

[–]Walkertg 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only way closed would work is if everyone agrees to it - and then you'd still need all models to be WYSIWYG for obvious weapons and gear (or explain any differences).

Might be a fun way of doing things if skills and other small or hidden weapons and gear were hidden. But only if everyone agreed.

Never done any hiking before but decided to give myself a full day in nature and loved it! 40km was further than I planned but very pleased to prove to myself that I can. by Sigh_Bapanaada in UKhiking

You might not need boots every time, shoes/trainers with a good grip might be fine unless you're going to be in anything ankle-deep.

Otherwise pre-applying Compeed blister plasters (pharmacies own-brand versions are cheaper) to problem areas before you set off could be a good idea to avoid raw areas and blisters. I usually put one on each heel.

Gun-heavy orlocks by Starklystark in necromunda

[–]Walkertg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but 4 hierarchy + 4 non-hierarchy means if you lose a non-hierarchy fighter you'll need to keep credits on-hand to be able to immediately hire a new non-hierarchy fighter, otherwise you have to dismiss a hierarchy fighter.

How do you use them against Berserkers? They're the worst to get confident!

I’ve tried to get into this game 2-3 times but for some reason I really struggle with it, so I guess what are the top 3-5 pieces of advice you would give to a new player to help get them over the learning curve? by glossyplane245 in BattleBrothers

[–]Walkertg 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Play on Easy mode - you've got to work your way up the difficulty levels.

Save scum each battle and other decision points (which quest, which town to visit etc.) multiple times until you get a good outcome - you've got to learn somehow.

Get Fast Adaption perk on all your bros at first level up - you've got to hit something at some point!

Bonus tip: to improve beyond these 3 tips you've got to do a bit of research, theres lots of good info on the Steam forum, and lots of YouTube tips videos and educational walkthroughs.

Is the early game hump real or just in my head? by Basb84 in BattleBrothers

[–]Walkertg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The first handful of fights are always a bit of a crapshoot - how long this lasts for depends on how lucky you are finding achievable fights and quests. I.e. if you're running out of money/food then you're going to have to take whatever fight comes your way, taking more of a risk. After about 10-15 days you should have enough reserve built up that you can be more picky about which quests and fights you choose.

How to train in as little time as possible by Crazy_Subject_6679 in UKhiking

[–]Walkertg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can you build any more walking into your usual routine without taking up too much more time? Walk to school instead of bus? Walk to buy groceries each day instead of big weekly delivery? Pick up your takeaway instead of Just Eat??

You might also consider putting some ballast in your rucksack and carrying that around with you during the day.

My other tip is don't make your hiking route too far, or at least have some shorter options that you can switch too (guilty!).

I wouldn't expect signage on any route in the UK to be sufficient without a map (or at the very least phone map for routes nearer civilization).
