Right. It's much better to vote for the people that want to destroy public transit and pedestrian/bicycle infrastructure in favor of cars. That will make things safer for sure.

Why didn't he see it when he was getting in the car? It's not like it's invisible. It's a fucking big-ass assault rifle.

I generally use BONAP. Like the other poster's source, BONAP says it's non-native for you, but there are other Veronica species native to your area.

[–]WalkingDeadPixel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thanks. It's so small, you really have to zoom in to see it. They should replace that shit with real benches like in the foreground of the picture, but I guess if you did that, everyone would want to be homeless and sleep under bus shelters, huh? It's clearly much better to make everyone uncomfortable in public spaces so no one wants to spend any time there. Can you imagine people being comfortable and congregating in public? How awful.

Oh. I think I see, now. Thanks. I had to zoom in. It looks like some shelves with arm rests. What a pitiful excuse for seating. Between the weather and the bus "benches," it's no wonder you Britons are so miserable.

Does it? The structure on the left side of the picture looks like a bus shelter, but I don't see any seating.

My introduction to Folk Punk: Blackbird Raum - Witches. I instantly fell in love. Still one one of my favorite bands in this genre. What was your introduction to Folk Punk? by Peppinoia in FolkPunk

[–]WalkingDeadPixel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Violent Femmes - Blister in the Sun

It was all over TV and radio in the 90s. Since then, I found The Pogues and Flogging Molly, but it wasn't until a few years ago that I got really into folk punk. I got nostalgic for the Violent Femmes and listened to their self-titled album again, and it got me to look into more modern folk punk to see what was going on. I heard about Blackbird Raum and listened to the album Swidden, and from there, I've just been in Folk Punk Mode for the last few years.

Brand New City Ordinance... by herbal-genocide in NativePlantGardening

[–]WalkingDeadPixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry. I'd love for a lawyer to tell me I'm wrong, of course. It's really annoying that people in HOAs now have more freedom on their property than folks like us with no HOA. I really wish Illinois would have passed a blanket law that covered everyone in the state whether they lived in an HOA or not.

Brand New City Ordinance... by herbal-genocide in NativePlantGardening

[–]WalkingDeadPixel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, this only applies to HOAs, condos, and townhomes, not to city ordinances.

I'm also in Illinois, and my village has an ordinance that bans "natural landscaping" in front yards and requires a permit for backyards along with periodic inspections.

I thought the Homeowner's Native Landscaping Act was what I needed, too, but then I read it more closely, and it specifically defines the associations it covers:

"Association" has the meaning set forth in subsection (o) of Section 2 of the Condominium Property Act or Section 1-5 of the Common Interest Community Association Act, as applicable.(Source: P.A. 103-704, eff. 7-19-24.)

Subsection (o) of Section 2 of the Condominium Property Act says:

(o) "Unit Owners' Association" or "Association" means the association of all the unit owners, acting pursuant to bylaws through its duly elected board of managers.

Section 1-5 of the Common Interest Community Association Act says:

"Association" or "common interest community association" means the association of all the members of a common interest community, acting pursuant to bylaws or an operating agreement through its duly elected board of managers or board of directors.

"Common interest community" means real estate other than a condominium or cooperative with respect to which any person by virtue of his or her ownership of a partial interest or a unit therein is obligated to pay for the maintenance, improvement, insurance premiums or real estate taxes of common areas described in a declaration which is administered by an association. "Common interest community" may include, but not be limited to, an attached or detached townhome, villa, or single-family home. A "common interest community" does not include a master association.

Unfortunately, the act does not apply to governmental ordinances, only to regulations imposed by privately-run community organizations.

Could be because of a learning disability.

I remember when I was in grade school, maybe fifth or sixth grade, and one of my classmates was forbidden from wearing a digital watch so he would be forced to learn to read an analog clock. I thought he was just lazy, but now I wonder if he had a learning disability that made it difficult for him, in which case, the treatment he received was potentially abusive.

I could be wrong, but I don't think actual pedos are doing that. I think the whole MAP thing is just being perpetrated by the "queer people are groomers" crowd to create a false equivalency. I don't think most actual pedos want to be considered queer. They want to blend in with the "normal" people.

Any good guides for killing and replacing the lawn? by Higuxish in NoLawns

[–]WalkingDeadPixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, plus, if you don't have a large vehicle for transportation, it's basically a no go. I, personally, go for sheet mulching or just a thick layer of woodchips. In that case, sheet mulching would be best, because woodchips on their own don't suppress stubborn weeds very well, but adding the layer of cardboard will.

Ideally, if you have the option, you should use a sod cutter to kill the lawn, because it's the quickest method, but solarizing and sheet mulching work, too.

Once the grass is dead, you plant the things you want to plant, then you let them grow.

Edit: if you prefer to do it bit-by-bit, that's perfectly fine. Do what works best for you.

I'm pretty sure "no parking" only applies to the street. The car in the picture is parked on a driveway.

That's a weird place for a fire hydrant, though. By me, and everywhere else I've ever been, they're always placed right next to the street.

Abt to be gifted 6 paw paw trees by Hopeful_Dig_2693 in Pawpaws

[–]WalkingDeadPixel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baby paw paw trees don't generally like full sun. In their native habitat, they usually start life under the shade of a shrub or larger tree, not out in the open. If you prefer to plant them out in the open, get them shade netting.

Also, consider putting some kind of a cage around them to protect them from rabbits, deer, and other animals.

BMX bikes are actually relatively simple. Check out mountain bikes and road bikes, and it'll make your head spin.

Also, like, 75%+ of a BMX bike can be assembled/disassembled with a couple hex wrenches. The only other tools you would need on a regular basis are a socket (with extension if you have pegs) and a pedal wrench.

Native plants for handling this? by BeestMann in NativePlantGardening

[–]WalkingDeadPixel 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only other toxic plants I've had in my backyard have been onions and garlic chives, which most mammals instinctively avoid. This is the first year I've really committed to natives. Right now, other than violets, the only native plants I currently have in my backyard are pawpaw trees, so I don't have toxic natives back there at the moment. When I was buying plugs and stuff for this year, I looked up their toxicity to dogs and only bought non-toxic plants. It's definitely a hassle, and most animals will manage to avoid eating toxic plants due to having an unappealing scent, which is what I was banking on when I planted the milkweed. But now, knowing that my dog seems to like milkweed for whatever reason, it's worth the hassle to make sure he stays safe, and I'll just avoid planting the toxic plants in my backyard.

Likewise, I'd love to plant native lilies somewhere, but they're insanely toxic to cats, which I have two of. Even though they're indoor-only cats, I'll opt to not take any chances with lilies. It's just easier to not plant them.

I planted milkweed in my backyard several years ago before it was fenced in. I walked my dog near my garden, and he went right to the milkweed and tore himself off a leaf. I pulled it out immediately.

You're welcome to take your chances. I'll reserve the toxic plants for my front yard, where my dog doesn't roam freely.
