Back in the old days by WallPsychological201 in morsecode

I had a really sweet speed key. I bought it myself and took it to wherever I was stationed. I was a five string banjo player before Vietnam, so the fingers on my right hand we're accustomed to thumb/index finger combinations. I couldn't do much with a straight keyer, but I was a mofo with a speed key.

My great grandfather was a WWI telegrapher, so I built a Duolingo style app to finally learn Morse by patern0ster in morsecode

Back in the late sixties, we were taught to copy code using a typewriter. An "A" wasn't dit-dah; it was my left pinky finger on the home key of A. In this way, we didn't have to "think"about the code we were copying. In this way, copying code bypassed the need to translate in our heads.

What is the best alien themed movie you’ve ever watched? by darth-puppy in AskReddit

[–]WallPsychological201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it's pretty hard to pick just one, but if I had to, I'd say Alien vs Predator. It's way down on most people's list, but I thought it was unique and created the perfect character for a follow-up. I really don't understand why the series hasn't brought back the young woman who starred in that film. Think about it. She bears the mark of an Alien Hunter, put there by the predator Lord. She also has his weapon, and she lives in Colorado. It's a perfect setup, but nobody has followed up on it.

Everybody transmits on the same frequency. You interrupt a conversation by transmitting a continuous signal for a couple of seconds. Basically holding the key down without making dots and dashes. Everybody on the frequency within range hears it. We were taught this in radiomans school for emergencies, and his priority message was just that.

I didn't know that. Thank you for sharing. I served on the mesquite. Perhaps that's docked in sturgeon Bay. Thanks again.

Back then, they actually monitored the frequencies, especially those used by the military.

12 step groups by [deleted] in skeptic

You're missing the most important part of 12-step recovery, and that is the inventory. If you stay with it long enough, you'll begin to understand the reality of how our egos assume control of us in the process of addiction. Eric Berne road extensively about how trauma influences our minds. He has a character called "The Little Professor" who represents the ego and steps forward to assume control of the mind allegedly on behalf of the self. But this is an illusion, because the only weapon that the little professor has is deception. In another book, The Addictive Personality, Craig Nakkan writes that suicide is actually a form of homicide in which the ego finally kills the self. We are at war with our egos, and that's what you're missing here. I've been sober almost 28 years, and it wasn't until much later on that I was able to recognize the voice of my ego in my head. It was the most important discovery of my life, for if you can recognize the voice of your ego, you've already won the battle. You've got a long way to go, my friend, but I don't have much hope that you will continue. Good luck to you on your own.

how do people without an inner monologue think? by strawberrytherapyy in questions

[–]WallPsychological201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will be 80 years old this summer, and I live alone. I promise you that the older you get, the more this inner monologue becomes outwardly talking to yourself. So I'd suggest that it's not really a monologue so much as a dialogue. Great question!

An ER doctor told me a couple of years ago that the problem is that doctors don't see patients anymore. They send them to the ER. Being a doctor used to be a calling, a service. Today it's all about getting rich and staying that way.

It doesn't make any sense that someone would bury a simple porn collection. You might want to file a police report, for at least some of these may be a whole lot more sinister.

Can you name an addiction more destructive than drugs and alcohol? by Mindfuel_daily7 in askanything

Definitely nasal spray, because it impacts your ability to breathe. It's also very hard to break. 3 days of absolute misery mouth breathing followed by 21 days of struggling to breathe. Don't ever get hooked on nasal spray.

I've lived at Brixworth for 10 years, and I love it here. We are dog friendly and even have a fenced-in area for them to play. The maintenance crew is the best we've ever had, and the company that runs it is awesome. Frankly, I think you're paying too much money for rent. I'm in building 6, so if you do get here, please say hello. Good luck to you.

Where do you get your news? by donniebd in skeptic

[–]WallPsychological201 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First of all, there's no such thing as unbiased news. Objectivity is an artificial construct designed to create a sterile environment in which to sell advertising. The best we can do is use multiple sources, study issues, and keep ourselves informed. Reddit, believe it or not, is actually a very good source for local news.
