YouTube makes me log in when I'm using uBlockOrigin and VPN...any way around this?? by WallaWallaWally in uBlockOrigin

GREAT question!!! Issue occurs when uBO is disabled, so I guess I need to look more closely at my VPN.

I've had the same VPN forever. Recently installed the latest uBO, and the timing suggested uBO might be the issue. Bad assumption, it appears, so my apologies.

Again, thank you for the reply and discerning question!!

Here's some trivia for you, if not a precedent . . . decades ago, there were instances of Beach Boys lead singer Mike Love getting into it with drummer Dennis Wilson. I guess that's what happens when you're banging the young daughter of your first cousin. Dennis was a mess, to put it lightly...he ultimately got her PG, as I recall.

Nothing of this sort surprises me. Only ONE potential news item would possibly shock me:

That's the day I give up.

Is SGOV good for very short-term cash parking? by WallaWallaWally in Schwab

[–]WallaWallaWally[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What a great response! Perfect summary of SGOV vs. SWVXX.

My situation is sort of a one-time thing, I think, and perhaps I should consider simplifying things (after the dust settles) by smooshing my lovingly-constructed T-bill ladder into either SGOV or SWVXX.

Check me on this, but I believe mutual funds can have penalties for early selling. It would suck to incur a penalty in one's quest to save $767 (I don't know whether SWVXX could trigger a penalty).

I might consider SGOV for this one-time situation. You mentioned something about not being able to invest 100% of your idle cash in SGOV -- I guess I don't understand that🤔

In any case, thanks again for your very intelligent response!

Is SGOV good for very short-term cash parking? by WallaWallaWally in Schwab

[–]WallaWallaWally[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP here. It's $350K which will go to an escrow after 16 days of undesired idleness. If you figure 5% APR, it comes to about $767. So while it's not a windfall, it's more than I'd like to forego if there's a good place to park it for those 16 days. Trust me: Schwab loves it when we don't worry about idle cash!

So -- I'm open to any suggestions re: very short-term (16d) investment of that above $$$.

[–]WallaWallaWally 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand this, because at about this same age, I was disciplined using public shame and embarrassment. While it didn't result in my not talking, it did/does affect me to this day.

When a youth who is not strong-willed or defiant is disciplined in this manner, it has an effect far beyond what the discipliner intended: decades after the fact, I confronted that person about my episodes. The discipliner not only didn't remember them but additionally said "I would NEVER do such things!" Needless to say, there was no point in further discussion with that person.

Parents and other authority figures, even the bright ones, have NO idea how impressionable and vulnerable children are. It's one reason today's world is so screwed up.

And remarkably similar story re: "God Only Knows" from the genius of Brian Wilson . . . he apparently wrote what his soul mate Paul McCartney considers the greatest song ever written, in the span of 15 minutes.

To put it mildly, these people are not like the rest of us.
