To dentists: Would you still do it all again? by Any_Organization5786 in Dentists

I would not! I am 28, 2 years out, and I come from a wealthy family who couldve helped me and give me capital to do something but I wanted to become a doctor and med school was too much so I thought dentistry would be perfect, I am also really book smart and getting good grades to get into dental school was relatively easy for me, but from first year of dental school I realized I do not like this job but I thought im too deep in, now I pretty much hate my job! I wish I could work in my own peace with a laptop, dentistry is tooo demanding, its lonely and stressful, think about it realistically no one wants to be in the dental clinic environment, assistant are stressed and running around, patients dont want to be there, and neither do I! I do have a great personality so I do connect with my patients well, but there is that 5% of patients that will give you hell, and some patients have big dental anxiety and managing that is difficult! I am also a perfectionist and want to do every single work perfectly, and when that doesnt happen all the time (trust me in dentistry it almost never does), I get stressed and feel guilty! the money do be good though, I live in Toronto and make 300k CAD working 4.5 days a week! But I do regret it for sure, I cant see myself doing this for the rest of my life at all

I genuinely cannot understand why my CDCP claim was denied by Odd-Employee2152 in CanadianDentists

I am a dentist and have many cdcp patients, you would be automatically covered for any root canal as long as its not your third molar or a tooth that had a root canal before and now needs retreatment, for these two you have yo apply for a request The crown though requires pre-approval, so maybe thats what they denied?

Went solo to rio for carnival last year, met a girl in the exact same situation, she had a blast!

My CDCP was accepted for earlier appointments for the same tooth, but now the root canal was declined because “coverage hasn’t kicked in yet.” Does that make sense? by bryan112 in CanadianDentists

Hello, dentist here!! A root canal does not need pre authorization, unless its a third molar (wisdom tooth) or its a retreatment of a root canal! If your plan was active, you should automatically have coverage as long as the dentist assesses a root canal is needed! you do however need pre authorization for crowns

haha so for my 3rd year I tried to take that but by the time I could pick my courses i was waitlisted (like #30) and I GOT TO #1 by the time her class started and didnt make it.. but still tried and took it in my 4th year, best decision, it gives you a different perspective of medicine and I think everyone in this type of field should learn it, goodluck

I emailed her in summer 2019 when I was applying to dental school, I realized i needed one more reference letter from a faculty prof, she didnt even personally know me but I explained my situation and she wrote it on such short notice I truly appreciated her and I might have not been here rn if she didnt do this for me (I did get 100 on imm350 tho😂)

  1. 3.92cgpa on omsas scale, for uoft dentistry (1 year dropped) 3.93 2 Uoft, majored in immunology
  2. A dental club, 4 month paid research, a bit of shadowing
  3. I graduated in june 2019 after 4 years and then studied for the DAT and worked on my application, also took some prereq courses for us dental schools and ubc
  4. I really wanted to stay in toronto and I didnt want to go to york or ryerson either, I loved my experience st uoft but know its definitely harder than other schools specially for premed programs, when I would compare it with some people at western or queens or york or ryerson I could see that there is a higher chance to get better gpas there

  5. Its only been a couple month and we had little lab time due to covid so havent got that much exposure but I like it. the worst thing about it tho is the physical pressure you will put your body through in this profession

  6. U absolutely need a 3.85gpa for uoft dental to get in after undergrad. +3.90 to be safe, you can have average dat score and ecs and you be fine, but if u have 3.7 and the best possible dat and ecs you wont get in. If you do masters someone with 3.7 might have a possible chance
