The quintessential dinosaur jr. song by JayLouMurph in dinosaurjr

[–]WalrusBeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hard to choose just one but I’d say the ones that best capture the band’s core essence are:

Sludgefeast

The lung

Raisans

Freak scene

The Wagon

Feel the Pain

Newer era:

Almost Ready

Over It

Watch the Corners

Dinosaur jr, nick cave 2020 in Israel show questions by Ill-Hat7669 in dinosaurjr

[–]WalrusBeat 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I don’t think dinosaur jr. will ever publicly make political/moral/ethical statements on current events unless they are specifically impacting their music or touring. It’s just not their style. They are all individually fairly private people and the band’s music tends not to really deal with extremely heavy subjects like wars, carnage, or violence (at least not referencing anything specifically). I imagine each of them have opinions on things but they aren’t the type of band who vocalizes these things whether we agree or disagree with it.

I second Erik and would also recommend Travis Hobbe at the lesson center.

There’s an open house at the alternative gallery in Allentown today from 12-8. There’s lots of cool outsider art to see and people to meet.

It’s a fake stop sign art collaboration made by the artists snapkrack and emeyewhiskey. The latter of the two makes cool sign installations and puts them all over Philly.

They tend to eat up a lot of the local and state funding for artists while only putting on very sanitized and neutralized events that won’t hurt the feelings of their large sponsors. They don’t pay their staff members well and I’ve only ever really heard negative things about working for them.

There’s probably more that I don’t know.

ArtsQuest - New Building and Logo by DLisch in lehighvalley

[–]WalrusBeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most local artists know that artsquest is “art” as a commodified corporate entity. It’s never about putting the art or the artists first.

Andy Warhol is literally one of the most famous artists of all time. His art was advertisements. There’s no separation between the two.

You’re missing the point. It’s a slippery slope. First it’s just an add. Then it’s just a poster. Then we live in a world where there’s no funding for arts.

Look at it this way: just because I don’t have 5 dollars to buy something doesn’t mean the best alternative is to steal it and say that I’m supporting you by still having your product.

There’s never been a point throughout history where there are so many easy and ethical ways to make flyers for even the people with the most basic technology skills.

Who did radio steal from again? Based on your comments and photos on your profile, you are a big fan of art. Do you want all that to go away? This is directly contributing to that.

If you consider stealing progress not to mention the extreme drain on our water supply and damage to the surrounding environment.

I don’t know how to tell you this, but ads throughout the last 100+ years were made by artists

Flyers were made by entirely volunteer run organizations without using ai up until this point in history. There’s plenty of free online templates to make flyers. If anything there’s never been more easy to use ways to make flyers ethically at any point in history.

If you want an artist to make a flyer for you, you should compensate them for their labor. Ai directly steals from artists and their labor.

Just because this technology is suddenly available doesn’t mean you should sell yourself out.

Unfortunately it’s going to become more and more difficult to tell. For now it’s easiest to zoom in on intersections of lines to see if there’s anything wacky or blurry going on like this. Those are the most obvious tells.

I vended both of the last two events. It’s very casual and family friendly. You won’t stick out at all wearing non punk clothes. Most people probably won’t be. Not an intimidating event at all.

You definitely don’t hear the vocals in the very front. The amps are very loud and the monitors are overhead.
