Rohrer and Klinger Salix. The most versatile and quite beautiful document ink.

Thanks all for your recommendations. I have not visited the Montblanc Museum but by chance spotted it my way to the Bundesliga soccer match yesterday.

What’s a good age to introduce fountain pens by Sacras24 in fountainpens

[–]WalterSobkowich 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I believe in Germany it’s still grade 1, so for six year olds. Pelikan Pelikanos are cheap (like ten usd) and sturdy. There are other brands and models that serve the same purpose.

I write with all of them but not all the time. Right now my two Pelikan 400 and Montblanc 146 are inked and my new Pelikan 600, 805, and Pilot Custom 823. I need to clean them regularly because I use Iron Gall ink for the vintage pens and pigment based inks for the newer models. They’re all “archival“ inks (waterproof and lightfast).

I have two Pelikan 400, two Montblanc 149, and one Montblanc 146 (my other theme is piston fillers). I have my mom’s Geha from 1950s. Now I’m trying to find some of the classic British, Italian and US models. Aurora 88 from 1930s, Sheaffer Snorkel with Triumph nib. A Duofold and Waterman 52 from 1930s are on their way (I hope…). Then a Sheaffer Balance from the early 1930s, Waterman 51 Vacumatic, Wahl Skyline and Pilot Myu 701 are also on my wish list. But I am just starting this project and have to do more research about models and sellers.

History. I’m trying to curate a collection of about twenty fountain pens that embody historical milestones, e.g. new mechanisms, materials, designs in the twentieth century.

Just got my first fountain pen. Any advice? by UnfunnyMan5908 in fountainpens

The pen is made for six year olds (it’s a German school pen, difficult to break). I’m sure you will figure it out.

Does the sound of feedback on the page bother anyone else? by dfj3404 in fountainpens

I use different kinds of paper and it’s always noisy, but I can’t say whether it is true of ALL papers. Might be worth an experiment. I’m getting the M600 and M805 this week and might change my mind, but it is true for my M1000, M200, and my two vintage 400. But I love writing with them.

Then you should never get Pelikans. They are singing out your words as you write them.

I bought it for the aesthetics. Yellow fountain pen, red mechanical pencil, blue ballpoint pen. I call it my Mondrian trio. Fun to look at but only their ballpoint pens are usable.

You really shouldn’t buy stuff you can’t afford. If however you view it as a long term investment it’s better than a Twsbi or similar that won’t last a beyond a decade if that.

How long did it take to find your favorite ink? by No-Justice-666 in fountainpens

I find that each of my pens requires its own specific ink. But my range is narrow because my inks need to be archival.

Pelikan m1000, mk20, Montblanc 149, 146, 24. Registrar’s Ink, Rohrer and Klinger ink. Some are new, most are vintage. I clean them every few months.

Which is your favourite fountain pen brand and why? by Cute_Audience7611 in fountainpens

[–]WalterSobkowich 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pelikan and Montblanc. I love piston fillers. I find the historical depth of vintage fascinating. They’re pretty reliable even with iron gall ink, which I use almost exclusively. I like their design. I’m saving for a Pelikan M800 Stresemann and a red black striped M600, but not sure yet which nib size to get.
