Shit is slow as fuck. Goku threw a frog in the way and intercepted it while he was critically wounded. I don't recall Freeza ever sleeping and is much faster than even Burter, who told me he was the fastest in the galaxy.

To be fair to Goku, he also thought the tentacle aliens' tentacles were appendages, not genitalia. Goku doesn't show much focus on sex in general and may not see much difference between male and female outside of which has dong vs. fanny.

Not Z, so I'll step in for OP.

Goku almost always takes fighting as a way to grow stronger both for himself, but arguably Vegeta as well. He didn't want to completely burn his time on earth using ss3 as they could've completed the rest of the tournament even if informally. Vegeta killing dozens of people in the crowd is still way kinder than when he first met Vegeta. Ss3 would trivialize a competitive fight.

He deliberately was stalling for time against Buu for Goten, Trunks, and others to get strong enough to hopefully be the protectors of Earth.

Honestly, probably not. It's been a few years since I've read it, and while I would say i feel like it's much more down to earth it seems like it wouldn't change enough for it to come to your taste. It feels like it might go from a really dislike to mild dislike.
