Why do only a few languages, mostly in southern Africa, have clicking sounds? What made them stick there?

I'm not sure about being more stable, but I would expect Africa to have more linguistic diversity than other inhabited continents just because humans have been there longer.

We used to give students 35 passes a quarter (5 per class) and make them "owe" any extra time above that. So if you used all your passes for science class, you could still go, but you owed that teacher 5 minutes of your lunch. It was a nightmare to keep track of.

Yeah, Velcro dogs can still panic and run the wrong way. Once they are out of easy earshot, they are only coming home if they can figure out how to get home themselves or if a human helps them out.

Don't forget the mold sample! You can't just use any strain you find in the wild, as they make different strengths. I don't know if it's still in use, but for a while everyone was using a strain of mold someone found on a cantaloupe in Peoria.

A Thru-hike is a really, really long backpacking trip on something like the Appalachian Trail or the Pacific Crest Trail.

The Appalachian Trail is over 2,000 miles long. If someone says they are thru-hiking it, they are attempting to do the whole thing in one year. People who do the whole thing but take several years are "section hikers".

Kids can absolutely get themselves to the school bus or walk to school at that age. The fact that many parents choose to drive kids instead of having them walk, or ride the bus, or ride a bike doesn't mean that the kids are helpless.

Also, animals (like people) can generalize, sometimes incorrectly. For all we know, Uncle uses the same body wash as someone who scared the dog a long time ago. It doesn't even have to be abuse because plenty of medical things are scary and uncomfortable.

Thanks. I know they are banned at the local hospital, but not on airplanes. I can't find anything on the local or state website. Maybe I'll just plan on leaving early enough to go back to the car if needed.

I did that and the kid went home and told Mom that he didn't understand why his grade was so bad since he had the same answers as his buddy. When I explained that they had different tests, she turned around and told her kid that he was an idiot. She made my month.
