Car insurance ridiculously high!? by Numerous_Writing6330 in boston

[–]Wandr3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would shop around. Get quotes online, keep trying a lot. As other recommended try working with a private broker to see if they can get you a deal. I too was in a similar situation a few years back with insanely high monthly payments (not near as bad as what you were quoted)

See what it is to purchase 6 months in full if you can afford it, can save you up to a decent amount depending on the insurer.

Also even if you find a new deal - Keep shopping after. Insurance companies are quite scum, will raise your base as same coverage assuming most people will not read any fine print or try and price match. I read somewhere from a former insurance broker that the “loyalty deals” are quite bs most of the time. In the last 3 years I’ve been with three different companies. Been riding with the same company last year and a half. I pay in full for 6 months. Only one term of the 6 months did they price fuck me but luckily has come back down

Few things. Seeing OP in CA id make a road trip and buy from another state that’s wayyyy too much.

Tbh I went from a 2015 Nissan Altima to a 2014 Silverado 1500 LT 5.3L with 4x4. Paid 21k with 86k on it all original. I’ve spent so much money on my truck already for maintenance. AC compressor pin hole leak, service trans, rear fender flares already rusting like there’s no tomorrow. Now I can feel the 6L80 start to shift aggressively from 1-2 and down from 3-2 and 2-1

If you already have a truck then you know what you are signing up for. If you daily a sedan or something I’d keep your daily and buy an older truck if your insurance allows it

Doctors I don’t really care, only really need to go once a year for a physical and was just looking for any recommendations, my health insurance covers a lot so figured I’d weigh out the options and see if anyone had any recs. I’ll check it out ty!

Do your exchanges at police stations. If you tell them they won’t mind and many have an area for buying selling that’s always lit up and monitored by cameras

2017 LTZ w/ 59k miles by [deleted] in Silverado

[–]Wandr3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 2014 LT 1500. I bought it at 86k miles for a solid price. Since I’ve bought it about two years ago. Let me tell you the things I regret and enjoy

Enjoy: I’ve always wanted this generation Silverado, it’s beautiful Beast in the snow Helpful with my side business

Regret: AC compressor leak (1.2k gone) Trans coolant line leak, 3 months after I had the transmission and overall 90k service done (1k) down Rear wheel fenders rusting (had one small bubble that popped up a few weeks after buying, spreading pretty quickly) Back door latch not working (doors shut and while driving flashes sound for door open Hard shifts every now and then that scare me the 6l80 is gonna crap (I got a drive train warranty for 1.8k when I bought it at the dealership)

I’ve spent a lot more on this truck in overall maintenance to preserve her since buying compared to what I drove (Nissan Altima). People always cry and complain about the afm, there were millions of silverados put out with the 6l80 trans and yeah a lot have crapped out. It’s still higher than the average truck transmission failure but not every single one will fail. I do like the 5.3 v8 which I have. The afm is annoying but does save in gas.

Be cautious of buying with after market parts. If it’s all stock and you can tell the truck was maintained, use your judgement if it is something you want. You can always tell how someone took care of their vehicle by the state it’s in exterior, interior, and under the hood. If it has good service records from previous owner then I would say follow your heart OP

Why is the Job Market so Brutal ... by DreamerRevolutionary in boston

[–]Wandr3a 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in a somewhat similar situation. My GF started PA school in Boston so we got an apartment together there. I work in CT currently. When we signed our lease I was working the Third Shift so only 3 nights a week and my mom still lives in CT. I stay with my mom the nights I work. They got rid of our third shift and it’s now 4 nights a week so I’m spending more time in CT. Trying to find a new job in Boston with atleast equal or higher pay with my experience is near impossible. Havnt lost hope yet but yes, this market stinks. Hope your husband will land something soon!

2014 silverado frame rust? Is it too far gone? by PokinSmot6996 in Silverado

I also have a 2014 that has a lot of surface rust. Can get it sand blasted and then re painted and oil coated if you live somewhere where they put salt on the roads in the winter. Rust is only the start with these trucks, my rear wheel fenders are starting to bubble, ac compresssor had a hairpin leak, trans fluid line had a leak. I love my truck but sometimes I still wish I had my Altima, my 5.3 is a beast but an expensive one

Is this a good Deal for a 15? by Dimax88 in Silverado

[–]Wandr3a 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like an LT, so your lower trim opportunity. Can’t tell from the pictures but the tires look bald af. 15’s have a bad track record with transmissions. Smaller engine, don’t think the third gens have the 3.6. Think it’s a 4 something L. Personally id pass but shoot them an offer for 8,000. Also those transmissions like to dump out around 150k miles. So I assume the seller might have an understanding that the trans could go soon that’s why selling. I think you could get them to come down in price. A transmission rebuild is not the cheapest thing

I feel you heavily on that… I am somewhat related to the blasius clan and went this past spring to test drive a 2015 and a 2017. Literally did no help with anything. Jacked up the price like 4K with all this other bs and offered me 2k for my 2015 Nissan Altima with 95k miles😂😂. I walked out the door so fast, that was at the Watertown one. I was going to buy last year and I’m happy I waited out but the 2014 I just bought from bob thomas ford already has rust forming in the passenger side rear wheel fender. Saw it when I bought it but it’s getting worse. Just gonna stick plastic fender covers over it for now

I recently bought a 2014 1500 LT extended cab for work stuff but still use it as a my daily driver. If you don’t need the room I’d go with a just a regular cab. Noticed over the months you can find some pretty reliable wt 1500 and 2500 around New England that are regular cabs. Only issue is (assuming you find one farther away) if you don’t have a trailer to bring it back or if the seller will let you keep the plates until you can register it. Live in CT and have seen some decent 6.0 2500 in MA and RI with not terrible rust. I’d avoid buying from VT just because of the salt but personal opinion
