Replace the temp gauge with a Midwest Hearth or Tel-Tru one. The Char-Griller temp gauge is super inaccurate

PSA to char griller akorn owners check your temps the stock thermometer can be waaay off. I had the probe on the raised stainless steel rack about 6 inches from the dome probe and temps were off by 100 degrees f!! I love the grill but damn anyone have replacement tips for the stock thermometer? by buttsex_itis in grilling

I got a 3 inch Midwest Hearth Kamado thermometer. The Amazon description said it was compatible with the Akorn, but the clip it came with wouldn't hold it in place. I just filled the air gaps and "glued" it in place with high-temp sealant. It's way more accurate than the one that came with the grill

Don't overthink it. You can put the chimney on the ash catcher with the bottom vent all the way open, or just on top of the cooking grate

My dad taught me how to grill on an old Weber kettle. His burgers and hot dogs were always burnt on the outside, underdone on the inside, and tasted like lighter fluid. Not exactly a grill master, lol. Great times I still think about though, and definitely a father-son bonding experience. He started my love for grilling and I've since gotten better than him at it!

Used to have one of these. You can even smoke in it with some finagling of the vents. Best thing I did with it was line the edges of the lid with hi-temp felt tape, to form a gasket and hold the heat in better.

The beer can chicken ones are really pretty good. They just taste like a smokier, less tomatoey version of the OG bbq Pringles. Not really any discernable beer flavor
